What’s the role

Operations and Maintenance roles at Shell are essential to the ongoing successes of the company. Shell’s Brockville Lubricants Plant is the largest blender and packager of retail passenger-car motor oils in Canada, manufacturing multiple lubricant products resulting in the production of over 1,000 finished goods, and the newest facility of its type in North America.


Shell is seeking a Maintenance Millwright to be part of the team at the Brockville Lubricants Plant. This team member will be responsible for carrying out high quality, efficient and safe operations in the most cost efficient and timely manner.

Accountabilities:

  • Manage preventative maintenance program, breakdown response, as well as working with production, engineering, and other technical resources to improve equipment uptime in a high-speed packaging environment, bulk blending process, bulk truck and rail sidings

  • Troubleshoot and provide an immediate corrective maintenance response during equipment scheduled operating time, as well as responding to other equipment and facility-related issue

  • Perform maintenance activities in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment. Troubleshooting and repair of production machines including high-speed packaging equipment such as bottle fillers, case erectors, palletizers, de-palletizers, drop packers, various types of conveyors, and other equipment

  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production cycle

  • Collaborate with other teams such as planning and engineering to develop preventive maintenance practices

  • Perform simple machinist duties such as milling, lathing, sandblasting, welding and fitting

  • Provide basic controls troubleshooting and programming

  • Interact with contractors to support them in executing work and work with vendors to ensure parts are supplied

  • Work within SAP and other computerized programs for inventory management and daily maintenance transactions

  • Carry out housekeeping, and maintain clean and orderly work areas

  • Troubleshoot process issues for bulk batch blending equipment, truck and rail car loading and offloading

  • Operate and maintain large utility equipment such as air compressors, steam boilers, air driers, and hot oil heaters

  • Diagnose, repair and rebuild varying pumps, motors, gearboxes and other rotating equipment

  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service

  • Diagnose problems, replace, or repair parts, test, and adjust

  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties

  • Comply with safety regulations (Lock-Out Tag Out, ePTW, and PPE requirements)

  • Diagnose and apply results using alignment tools for power-driven connections (i.e., reverse dial indicator and laser alignment tools)

  • Execute maintenance activities per direction of Maintenance Manager or delegate, may include the keeping of records, monitoring of maintenance costs, and production performance

  • Review production efficiency data to make improvements to process equipment based on poor performing equipment

What you bring

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.

  • Must hold or be able to obtain the 433A Industrial Mechanic Millwright Certificate

  • 2 years’ experience with Production Processes and related equipment is preferred

  • Solid background in operating continuous or batch processes, as well as experience with high-speed packaging systems is preferred

  • Proficient in computer applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel, with experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) like SAP

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

  • Electrical and PLC experience is preferred

  • Proficient in maintenance practices such as work order creation and closure, documenting activities, managing spare parts, and adhering to schedules

  • Ability to lift and carry 20 kg from ground to waist level

  • Ability to wear a respirator or Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)

  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spaces

  • Willing to work outdoors in inclement weather

  • Willing to comply with Shell's drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures

  • Ability to pass the preemployment process as a condition of employment for this position is successful completion of a pre-placement medical assessment of your fitness for duty, background check, driving record check and Pre-Site Access testing for alcohol and specified drugs

The hourly rate for this role is $41.51. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity
