As a global leader in recruitment and talent solutions, Randstad connects top-tier candidates with exceptional employers across Canada. In this permanent, on-site role, you will be part of the specialized Randstad Operational division within the engineering & design sector. As a Control Systems Engineer, you will play a critical role in developing, refining, and validating innovative electromechanical products and suspension technologies aimed at significantly improving vehicle performance across defense, heavy equipment, and commercial applications.

In your role as a Control Systems Engineer, you will serve as a technical focal point for control systems leadership. Your core focus as a Control Systems Engineer will encompass navigating legacy control logic, developing sophisticated plant models (hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical), conducting SIL/PIL/HIL testing, and performing on-vehicle commissioning.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a Control Systems Engineer who thrives on solving complex engineering challenges in safety-critical environments. Clear and effective communication is essential for the Control Systems Engineer position, as you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, international partners, and external stakeholders. The ideal Control Systems Engineer will possess strong technical English communication skills to document test plans, participate in technical design reviews, and provide remote or on-site client support across global regions.

Advantages
• Competitive total compensation package matching industry standards.

• Financial reimbursement for professional engineering association fees.
• Excellent work-life balance featuring optimized core working hours (Mon–Thu 7:00 AM–4:00 PM; Fri 7:00 AM–1:00 PM).
• Welcoming, casual work environment with inclusive company social events.
• Opportunity to work on cutting-edge suspension technologies in defense and off-highway sectors.

Responsibilities
• Navigate legacy control logic and system architectures to drive continuous improvement.
• Conduct thorough literature reviews to evaluate past and present control strategies.
• Develop advanced control models using computer-aided engineering (CAE) techniques.
• Construct detailed hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical plant models to support control model validation.
• Lead and support Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), Processor-in-the-Loop (PIL), and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.
• Support the development and integration of embedded systems executing control models.
• Draft detailed technical documentation, specifications, and comprehensive test plans.
• Participate actively in design reviews to identify technical risks and recommend mitigation solutions.
• Perform in-house testing as well as hands-on, on-vehicle commissioning.
• Deliver technical diagnostics and troubleshooting support to resolve client issues efficiently.
• Collaborate with project management teams to assist with timelines and resource allocation.
• Travel to customer sites as required for commissioning and support.

Qualifications
• Advanced proficiency in Matlab, Simulink, and Simscape for model-based design.
• Expert knowledge of model-based design methodologies (SIL/PIL/HIL testing and requirements management).
• Strong experience with commercial electronic control units (ECUs) such as TTControl.
• Proficiency with revision control systems including Git, GitHub, or GitLab.
• Deep understanding of vehicle communication protocols, specifically J1939 CAN.
• Solid working knowledge of functional safety standards such as ISO 26262.
• Hands-on familiarity with laboratory testing equipment, including oscilloscopes, debuggers, and data acquisition tools.
• Familiarity with C/C++ and assembly programming languages.
• Practical understanding of microcontrollers, electronic circuits, sensors, electric motors, and hydraulic systems.
• Methodical problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail and strong self-starter initiative.
