Full-Time Permanent | Remote-First | Greater Toronto Area
Salary: $85,000 - $105,000 CAD,based on experience and qualifications
Position Status: This posting is for an existing vacancy.
Location: Remote-first within the Greater Toronto Area, with occasional in-person meetings at TSG's Thornhill office and client locations. Preference will be given to candidates located in the northern GTA who can readily attend in-person meetings when required.
The Siroky Group Inc. (TSG) is a Canadian software development and consulting company specializing in technology solutions for the Out-of-Home advertising industry.
TSG is undertaking a significant modernization of our enterprise software platforms and is looking for an experienced Senior Business Analyst to join our product development team.
The successful candidate will initially play a key role in a major multi-year enterprise modernization initiative involving campaign planning, inventory management, pricing, mapping, contracts, production, workflow, integrations and financial processes. Beyond this initiative, the role will contribute to the continued evolution and modernization of TSG's broader product suite.
This is a hands-on Business Analyst role. We are looking for someone who is comfortable getting into the details of complex business processes, asking the right questions and translating business knowledge into clear, practical requirements that UX, development and QA teams can work from.
The Role
Working closely with TSG's Product Owners, business subject-matter experts, Project Manager, UX/UI team, technical leadership, developers, QA and client stakeholders, the Senior Business Analyst will help define what our applications need to do and ensure that requirements remain clear throughout delivery.
TSG has significant internal business and product expertise. Your role is not expected to be that of the subject-matter expert on day one. Instead, you will work with our internal experts and clients to extract, analyze and structure that knowledge into requirements that can be effectively designed, developed and tested.
You will participate in collaborative discovery of both current and future-state processes and then take ownership of driving requirements forward as the project moves into design and development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and participate in requirements discovery sessions with business users, Product Owners and subject-matter experts.
- Understand existing business processes and systems while helping distinguish true business requirements from limitations or behaviours of legacy applications.
- Analyze current-state workflows and contribute to the definition of improved future-state processes.
- Translate business needs into clear, development-ready functional requirements.
- Identify and document business rules, exceptions, dependencies, assumptions and decision points.
- Develop user stories and meaningful acceptance criteria that provide development and QA teams with a clear understanding of expected system behaviour.
- Work closely with UX/UI resources to ensure proposed designs support the underlying business requirements and rules.
- Collaborate with technical teams to identify and document data, integration and system requirements.
- Identify gaps, conflicting requirements and unanswered questions and work with the appropriate stakeholders to resolve them.
- Maintain traceability between approved project scope, requirements and delivered functionality.
- Identify requirements that may represent changes or additions to agreed project scope and raise them for review before they enter development.
- Support backlog refinement and provide requirements clarification throughout development.
- Work with QA to ensure acceptance criteria and business rules are sufficiently clear to support effective testing.
- Support UAT planning, business validation and resolution of requirement-related questions.
- Maintain clear documentation of important decisions and requirements without creating unnecessary administrative overhead.
- Work collaboratively with other Business Analysis and Product resources and provide guidance or review where appropriate.
- As major requirements streams mature, contribute to discovery and requirements development across other TSG products and future initiatives.
Our Approach to Business Analysis
TSG takes a pragmatic approach to Business Analysis.
We value clear, actionable and development-ready requirements over documentation for documentation's sake.
The appropriate level of documentation will vary depending on the complexity of the requirement. A workflow diagram may sometimes communicate a process better than several pages of text. An approved UX prototype combined with clearly documented business rules and acceptance criteria may provide everything development needs.
The successful candidate will understand how to determine the appropriate level of analysis and documentation for each situation.
We don't measure successful Business Analysis by the number of documents produced, we measure it by whether business users, UX, development and QA have a shared and accurate understanding of what needs to be built, why it is needed and what constitutes successful delivery.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of professional Business Analysis, Business Systems Analysis or software product experience.
- Significant experience working on complex enterprise, B2B or SaaS software applications.
- Strong experience gathering, analyzing and documenting functional requirements and business rules.
- Demonstrated ability to lead requirements and discovery sessions with business users and subject-matter experts.
- Experience analyzing complex workflows and identifying opportunities for simplification or improvement.
- Strong experience writing clear user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Experience working closely with UX/UI designers and understanding the distinction and collaboration between business requirements and interaction design.
- Experience collaborating with software developers, technical leads and QA throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Experience with data flows, integrations and API-driven applications is considered an asset.
- Experience working within Agile or iterative software development environments.
- Experience with Jira or comparable requirements/backlog management tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple areas of analysis and move work forward without excessive oversight.
- Ability to recognize when additional analysis adds value—and when enough information exists for the team to proceed.
Experience with media planning, advertising technology, mapping/GIS, CRM, ERP, financial systems, field-service applications or other complex operational platforms would be considered an asset, but industry-specific experience is not required.
The Person We're Looking For
You are curious.
When a business user tells you, "That's how we've always done it," your next question is probably "Why?"
You are comfortable working with people who have decades of business and product knowledge and know how to extract that knowledge without expecting them to write the requirements for you.
You are thorough without being bureaucratic. You understand that the purpose of Business Analysis is to create clarity and enable delivery—not to create documentation simply because a methodology says it should exist.
You are comfortable identifying contradictions, asking difficult questions and respectfully challenging assumptions.
You can take a complicated two-hour business discussion and come away understanding the underlying rules, exceptions, unanswered questions and decisions—and turn those into something a UX designer, developer and QA analyst can actually use.
Most importantly, you enjoy understanding how businesses work and helping turn that understanding into better software.
This is a permanent role with the opportunity to become an important part of TSG's product team and contribute to the continued modernization of our enterprise software platforms.
