Position Summary

Exemplifying the mission, vision and values of St.Amant, the Supervisor, River Road Child Care works collaboratively with partnered programs while offering employees respectful customer service.

The Supervisor, River Road Child Care (RRCC) is responsible for the overall care and well-being of the children in accordance with the Manitoba Child Day Care Standards Act. The Supervisor, RRCC supervises and provides leadership to the Early Childhood Educators and the Child Care Assistants by developing and monitoring a system of procedures designed to ensure all job functions are performed. The position involves direct interactions with the children and acts as a resource for the team as they support the children in following through with their program planning.

The Supervisor, RRCC will be immediately responsible to the Coordinator and will be responsible for the Centre in the absence of the Coordinator. The Supervisor, RRCC possess the ability to assume a leadership role and to organize, direct and delegate effectively within a unionized working environment. This involves the ability to:

  • Anticipate issues/concerns and develop pro-active strategies to minimize their impacts
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within an interdisciplinary team model
  • Serve as a model regarding cooperative teamwork, conflict resolution and process improvement
  • Conceptualize and implement innovative/creative responses to individual needs within available resources
  • Self-motivated and possessing excellent organizational and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Confident, assertive, credible, accountable and compassionate

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education
  • Meet the requirements under the Manitoba Early Learning and Child Care Program as ECE III or ECE II in training to become an ECE III
  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate as prescribed by the Manitoba Child Day Care Standards Act
  • Current Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Previous experience working in the child care profession
  • Minimum of one year of experience in leading a team, staff supervision and training
  • Working knowledge of office productivity applications (Microsoft Word and Excel)
  • Commitment to a collaborative team approach to service delivery
  • Knowledge of The Community Child Care Standards Act
  • Knowledge of The Family-Centred Approach
  • Physically ability to use low chairs and to lift, transfer, feed and toilet children
  • Physically able to wash and disinfect toys and move small furniture and child care equipment
  • Able to participate fully in the overall care of individuals according to accepted practice (e.g. transfers, lifting, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Circle of Security, Attachment Theory)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the regular provision of children's daily programming experiences
  • Facilitates regular reviews of the daily programs that will stimulate the development of the children's cognitive, physical, social and emotional growth
  • Leads the process of effective individualized programming in consultation with the appropriate outside agencies or professionals with the knowledge and support of the Coordinator, ensuring that standards related to individual reviews, objectives, data and individual/group schedules are met
  • Take a major role in programming in regards to observing. Documenting planning, developing, and monitoring (fieldtrips, organizing supporting, evaluating, motivating)
  • Ensures programming is anti-bias curriculum, inclusive of children with additional support needs, medical supports and allergies as well as being congruent with established policies and procedures
  • Ensures daily programs stimulate the development of the children's cognitive, physical, social and emotional growth. Ensures the health and safety are considered at all times - cleanliness of rooms and hallways. Guides the team in developing plans for indoor and outdoor space usage
  • Assists teams by directly supporting during times of crisis and understaffing
  • Adheres to and promotes compliance with the policies of the Centre and the requirements of the Manitoba Child Day Care Standards Act and licensing requirements
  • Facilitates appropriate behaviour management and guidance techniques according to River Road Child Care policies: Positive Reinforcement, Redirection, Positive Language and Circle of Security
  • Actively pursues knowledge and development in early education and "Best Practices" through attending assigned workshops and seminars

As a Condition of Employment, successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Child Abuse Registry Check and Prior Contact Check.

As a Condition of Employment, new hires must complete a series of Occupational Health checks. This includes the requirement to confirm immunization or immunity of specific communicable diseases.
