Job description
Are you an experienced human resources professional with expertise in disability case management, abilities management, and claims management? We are seeking a dedicated Abilities and Claims Specialist to join a dynamic human resources team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In this key 18-month term position within our client’s human resources division, you will lead the coordination, administration, and execution of comprehensive disability management, return-to-work programs, and occupational health and safety claims. Working in the field of human resources, you will act as a vital bridge between employees, internal leaders, external providers, and medical professionals to cultivate a safe, supportive, and inclusive workplace.

Responsibilities
• Lead the administration, tracking, coordination, and documentation of occupational and non-occupational injury and illness claims, including WCB, STD, LTD, and MPI files.
• Liaise directly with medical providers, insurance carriers, and external agencies to coordinate early and safe return-to-work programs.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in disability management, advising leaders and employees on claims status, accommodation processes, and modified duties.
• Develop, facilitate, and continually improve attendance management strategies and prevention-focused health and wellness initiatives.
• Conduct training sessions for leadership and staff on disability case management, claim procedures, and ergonomic or workplace safety protocols.
• Provide guidance and resolution support on employee and labor relations issues, workplace conflict, harassment complaints, and progressive discipline.
• Monitor health and claims data trends to inform targeted human resources programs and organizational wellness strategies.
• Ensure strict compliance with relevant labor standards, occupational health and safety regulations, and privacy legislation.

Qualifications
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related discipline.
• Formal certification in Return to Work Coordination, Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 to 3 years of direct human resources experience focusing on employee and labor relations, disability case management, and return-to-work planning.
• Strong background working alongside external bodies such as WCB, STD/LTD providers, and commercial insurance entities.
• Demonstrated track record in navigating complex HR legislation and safety protocols within a industrial or transportation environment.
