Job description
The Vice President, Finance is a senior leadership role responsible for the financial stewardship, scalability, and long-term financial health of this equipment rental business. The role provides strategic and operational leadership across the five pillars of finance: financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, treasury, internal controls, and compliance. The company currently operates 9 branches across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Alberta, and British Columbia, with significant growth and acquisitions anticipated into additional Canadian markets. This position will strengthen the finance function, improve visibility into business performance, support disciplined decision-making, and help ensure the organization is prepared for continued growth. Reporting to the President, this position leads the Controller and Financial Analyst directly, with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and the Accountant reporting through the Controller. The work location is flexible; however, this is an in-office leadership role requiring regular collaboration with executive leadership, operational leaders, and the broader finance team. Suitable candidates can reside anywhere in Canada. **Finance team is in Dieppe, New Brunswick. Travel to corporate office and branches will be required. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead timely, accurate, and meaningful monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting for the organization. Oversee financial statement preparation, management reporting, and reporting packages for senior leadership and ownership. Develop and maintain financial dashboards, KPIs, and analysis that improve visibility into business performance. Ensure reporting is consistent, reliable, and scalable as the company grows into new markets and integrates acquisitions. Partner with operations to translate financial results into actionable insights related to profitability, productivity, fleet performance, and branch performance. Budgeting & Forecasting

Lead the annual budgeting process, including timelines, assumptions, departmental input, review, and executive presentation. Develop rolling forecasts and long-range financial plans that support organic growth, acquisition activity, and market expansion. Monitor actual results against budget and forecast, investigate variances, and recommend corrective or improvement actions. Support capital planning, fleet investment decisions, acquisition modelling, and new-market business cases. Build financial models and scenario analysis to support strategic decision-making and resource allocation. Treasury

Oversee cash flow management, liquidity planning, working capital performance, and short- and long-term cash forecasting. Manage banking relationships, financing arrangements, lender reporting, and debt covenant compliance, as applicable. Assess financing options to support capital investments, acquisitions, and growth initiatives. Monitor accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll funding, and cash conversion practices in partnership with the Controller and finance team. Recommend strategies to protect cash flow, safeguard company assets, and maintain financial flexibility. Internal Controls

Establish, maintain, and improve internal controls, financial policies, approval processes, and governance practices. Evaluate finance processes and controls across reporting, AP, AR, payroll, accounting, and system workflows. Identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, accountability, and scalability within the finance function. Leverage Texada and ADP Workforce Now data where appropriate to improve reporting, reconciliation, controls, and operational decision-making. Support system enhancements, process standardization, automation, and acquisition integration activities. Compliance

Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax requirements, payroll obligations, financing agreements, and internal policies. Oversee external audit coordination, tax filings, regulatory reporting, and relationships with external advisors. Monitor compliance requirements as the company expands into additional Canadian markets and jurisdictions. Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures that support consistency, transparency, and accountability. Promote ethical financial stewardship and decision-making aligned with the company’s values of integrity and fairness. LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead, coach, and develop the Controller and Financial Analyst while supporting the broader finance team through the Controller. Build a finance function that is proactive, service-oriented, accurate, and capable of supporting rapid growth and acquisitions. Act as a strategic advisor to the President / CEO and executive leadership team by providing clear financial insights and recommendations. Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, HR, sales, service, and branch leadership to improve decision-making and business performance. Champion continuous improvement, accountability, team development, and data-driven decision-making. SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

Technical Skills

Financial reporting, financial statement analysis, and management reporting. Budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and strategic planning. Treasury, cash flow management, working capital management, and lender reporting. Internal controls, audit coordination, risk management, process improvement, and financial governance. Corporate tax, payroll-related financial oversight, and multi-provincial compliance awareness. Experience with ERP/accounting systems, rental management systems, and reporting tools; experience with Texada and ADP Workforce Now is preferred. Advanced Microsoft Excel and strong financial analysis capabilities. Mergers, acquisitions, integrations, and growth-related financial planning. Core Competencies

Education:

Bachelor\'s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field. Experience:

Minimum 10 years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience, including experience in a senior finance leadership role. Certifications:

CPA designation required. Leadership:

Proven experience leading finance professionals and building scalable finance processes in a growing organization. Systems:

Experience using financial, payroll, and operational systems to support reporting, controls, and decision-making; experience with Texada and ADP Workforce Now is an asset. Preferred Qualifications

Experience in equipment rental, industrial services, construction, transportation, distribution, or another asset-intensive industry. Experience supporting acquisitions, integrations, and expansion into new markets. Experience working in a privately held, entrepreneurial, or high-growth organization. Experience operating across multiple provinces or jurisdictions within Canada. Experience with fleet-based financial analysis, branch profitability reporting, and capital expenditure planning. MBA or other advanced business designation considered an asset.
