Purpose

We are currently recruiting for a Lead Electrical Engineer. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in Sudbury, Ontario.

We are currently looking for a Senior Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team.

The candidate will lead small to medium projects for the Electrical discipline and interface effectively with clients while coordinating with the wider project team.

Take responsibility for the Electrical engineering and design team assigned to projects and ensure technical deliverables meet quality, cost, and schedule requirements.

Support the Technical Integrity role for the Electrical discipline.

Ensure all engineering and design work conforms to client standards, applicable codes, industry standards, and Worley procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver electrical engineering services that meet Worley, its customers, and applicable statutory and regulatory specifications, on time and within budget
  • Perform electrical engineering services such as:
    • identify and report changes to project scope.
    • assist with the preparation of proposals, estimates, budgets, and schedules.
    • provide assistance during procurement, construction and commissioning activities. For example, write requisitions, conduct technical bid evaluations and write purchase orders.
    • contribute to appropriate studies, analyses and recommend actions.
    • assist with the preparation of detailed designs and drawings, specifications, data, calculations and reports.
  • Lead a discipline project team of Engineers, Designers and Technologists.
  • Serve as the Electrical Lead Engineer on assigned projects and supervise the work of engineers and designers.
  • Support scope definition, project estimation, planning, forecasting and progress control of electrical engineering activities.
  • Support resource allocation and workload balancing based on project schedule requirements.
  • Lead proposal development, RFP reviews, engineering estimates, detailed engineering, field support and project execution activities.
  • Ensure the project scope is clearly defined and that scope changes are managed in accordance with project change management procedures.
  • Participate in client meetings, design reviews, risk reviews, interdisciplinary coordination meetings and progress reporting.
  • Review, check and approve electrical engineering deliverables produced by project team members.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior, intermediate and senior electrical engineers and designers.
  • Support quality assurance and technical verification of engineering deliverables.
  • Resolve technical issues and discrepancies between Worley standards and client requirements.
  • Liaise with clients, vendors, construction personnel and other engineering disciplines.
  • Provide engineering support during procurement, construction, commissioning and start-up activities.
  • Support site activities, field investigations, equipment inspections and construction troubleshooting as required.
  • Keep up to date with the latest developments and technical innovations in electrical engineering.
  • Communicate effectively with the electrical engineering team, GID (Global Integrated Delivery) team and project stakeholders, including the customer.
  • Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions, and ask for assistance when required.
  • Ability to interpret client specifications.
  • Coordinate/Communicate with other disciplines
  • Familiarity of applicable codes and Mining standards to support engineering deliverables.
  • Quality Assurance – Responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Worley Quality Assurance system.
What You Will Bring

Technical and Industry Experience:

  • 15+ years of electrical engineering experience with demonstrated experience leading engineering teams and projects.
  • Experience leading multiple concurrent small and medium-sized mining projects.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience supervising multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing engineering estimates, schedules and resource plans.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead electrical engineering design activities from concept through commissioning.
  • Strong working knowledge of mining facilities including shaft systems, material handling systems, crushing, grinding, flotation, dewatering, ventilation systems, smelters and refinery facilities.
  • Experience working directly with clients and participating in design reviews, technical presentations and engineering workshops.
  • Familiarity with digital engineering tools, 3D design environments and data-centric project execution methods.
  • Experience coordinating workshare execution with GID and remote engineering teams.
  • Several years of relevant MMM experience.
  • Experience in Minerals and Metals industry.
  • Surface and Underground Mining experience including shaft sinking and subsurface utilities.
  • Previous site experience is an asset.
  • Sound technical and practical engineering skills.
  • Working knowledge of applicable standards.
  • Competent use of engineering software and MS Office.
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of direct electrical engineering experience.
  • Previous experience in consulting engineering within the mining industry.

Extensive Working Knowledge Of Electrical Engineering Deliverables Including

  • Single Line Diagrams (SLD).
  • Load Lists and Load Flow Studies.
  • Short Circuit and Protection Coordination Studies.
  • Arc Flash Studies.
  • Motor Control Centre (MCC) Design.
  • Power Distribution Systems.
  • Grounding and Lightning Protection Systems.
  • Area Classification Drawings.
  • Electrical Equipment Specifications and Datasheets.
  • Cable Schedules and Cable Sizing Calculations.
  • Lighting Design and Photometric Calculations.
  • Electrical Equipment Layouts.
  • Material Requisitions and Technical Bid Evaluations.
  • Construction Work Packages and Engineering Work Packages.
  • Competent use of ETAP, SKM, EasyPower or equivalent power system analysis software.
  • Extensive knowledge of CSA, IEEE, IEC, NEC, OESC and mining industry electrical standards.

Required

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

  • University graduate in Electrical Engineering or Applied Science.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario or eligible for immediate registration.

For applicants based in the province of Ontario, the salary range is $122,879 to $144,563 CAD.

Application of the pay band: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
