Job description

Structural Lead | Build, Lead & Shape a Growing Structural Practice

Calgary, Alberta | Relocation Opportunity | Leadership | Future Principal

Are you a senior structural engineer ready to build something of your own—without taking on the risk of starting your own firm?

We're partnering with a well-established multidisciplinary consulting engineering firm that is investing heavily in the growth of its Calgary office. They are looking for a Structural Lead who wants more than project delivery. They're looking for someone who wants to influence strategy, build a team, develop client relationships, and establish a lasting presence in the Alberta market.

This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial structural engineer who enjoys leading people, driving business growth, and working closely with ownership to shape the future of a structural division. With strong backing from an established multidisciplinary team, you'll have the autonomy to build the practice while leveraging existing client relationships and internal support.

For the right individual, there is a clear pathway to Principal within 12 months, along with the opportunity to become a key leader within the organization.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead the growth and expansion of the Structural Engineering division in Calgary.
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing structural team.
  • Take ownership of project delivery, quality assurance, budgeting, and client satisfaction.
  • Strengthen existing client relationships while developing new business opportunities throughout Alberta.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and multidisciplinary teams on notable projects across Western Canada.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients throughout all stages of project delivery.
  • Play an active role in the firm's strategic growth plans and future leadership initiatives.

What You'll Bring

  • 10–15+ years of structural consulting engineering experience.
  • P.Eng. designation (APEGA or eligible).
  • Strong technical expertise in structural building design (steel, concrete, timber, and masonry).
  • Experience delivering commercial, institutional, healthcare, residential, industrial, or mixed-use projects.
  • Proven leadership experience mentoring engineers and managing project teams.
  • Business development experience and the ability to foster long-term client relationships.
  • Existing Alberta network is considered a significant asset.
  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset with aspirations toward senior leadership.

Why You'll Want to Consider This Opportunity

Build Something Meaningful

This isn't stepping into an already-established department—it's an opportunity to leave your mark by growing and shaping the structural practice in Calgary.

Leadership That Matters

Become a trusted member of the leadership team where your ideas, experience, and decisions directly influence the future of the business.

Clear Path to Principal

The firm is committed to developing future leaders, with a defined pathway toward a Principal role based on performance, leadership, and business development.

Diverse & Challenging Projects

Work on a broad range of commercial, institutional, healthcare, residential, industrial, and mixed-use developments alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team.

A Collaborative Culture

Join a firm known for its supportive leadership, long-tenured employees, and collaborative environment where technical excellence and mentorship are highly valued.

Autonomy with Strong Support

Enjoy the independence to grow your team and business while having the backing of an established organization with an excellent reputation in the market.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary starting around $150,000+, based on experience and Alberta market relationships.
  • Performance-based bonus.
  • Comprehensive health and dental benefits.
  • Relocation assistance available.
  • Professional development support.
  • Long-term career progression into Principal and executive leadership.
  • Opportunity to play a pivotal role in the continued growth of an established consulting engineering firm.

This is an opportunity for someone who wants more than their next job.

If you're ready to lead, build a team, influence business strategy, and create a lasting impact on Calgary's consulting engineering market, we'd love to have a confidential conversation.
