Job Title: Lab Technician – Quality Control and Receiving

Reports To: Operations Leader/Senior Lab Staff

Location: Concord, ON

Hourly Rate: $22/hour

About Us:

Rochester Aluminum Smelting Canada Limited (“Rochester Aluminum” or the “Company”) is a family-owned and operated business with more than three decades of experience in Aluminum Smelting. The Company’s roots trace back to 1957, when a small scrap metal operation was started to support a growing family. What began modestly has since grown into a long-standing business built on hard work, curiosity, and pride.

  • A legacy driven company led by the next generation, blending experience, craftsmanship, and fresh ideas.

  • Close-knit, supportive team where your contributions are valued and learning from experienced professionals is part of the job.

  • Culture that is built on growth, continuous improvement, and pride in doing meaningful work.

  • A place to build a long-term career and make a real impact.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Lab Technician – Quality Control and Receiving to join our team and play an important role in supporting our day-to-day operations. You’ll be responsible for receiving materials, sampling and testing incoming scrap and finished products, and helping ensure our quality and safety procedures are followed consistently.

This is a hands-on role where no two days are exactly the same. You’ll work closely with our operations team, use laboratory and industrial equipment, and have the opportunity to take on responsibilities across quality control, receiving, and plant operations. If you’re comfortable working independently, enjoy problem solving, and take pride in getting the details right, this role could be a great fit for you.

Vacancy Status: This is an ongoing recruitment pool.

What You’ll Do:

  • Receiving and Material Handling: Receive incoming scrap materials and coordinate the movement of trucks carrying incoming scrap and outgoing finished products.

  • Quality Control and Testing: Sample and test incoming scrap materials, molten aluminum, and finished products in accordance with established procedures, using hand and power tools as needed.

  • Plant and Laboratory Support: Complete daily laboratory, equipment, and maintenance tasks to help keep operations safe, accurate, and running effectively.

  • Team Support and Direction: Provide direction and supervision to forklift operators and general labourers as required, while working closely with the broader operations team.

  • Safety and Procedures: Follow documented procedures, company policies, and safety requirements, wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE), and promptly report equipment concerns, hazards, or safety incidents.

  • Administrative and Computer Tasks: Use Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, and Excel, and web-based systems as needed to complete job responsibilities and maintain accurate information.

  • General: Jump in to support the team with other duties and responsibilities as required.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Education and Technical Strength: A college or university diploma or degree in Science, Math, or a related field, or 2+ years of relevant work experience. Strong mathematical skills and the ability to work confidently with measurements, fractions, decimals, and units are important.

  • Quality and Attention to Detail: A careful, quality-focused approach with the ability to follow established procedures, complete testing accurately, and maintain consistency in day-to-day work.

  • Computer and Organizational Skills: Comfortable using Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, and web-based applications, with strong organization and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Safety and Reliability: A strong commitment to workplace health and safety, reliability, punctuality, and the ability to understand and follow workplace safety procedures and PPE requirements.

  • Hands-on and Adaptable: Previous experience in manufacturing, production, warehouse, or general labour is an asset but not required. Mechanical aptitude, experience with industrial equipment, or forklift/front-end loader experience are also assets, with training provided. A willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities is important.

What’s In It For You:

You’ll join a team that rewards great work with competitive pay, a positive atmosphere, and real chances to shine. You’ll have solid group benefits, a health care spending account, paid sick days when you need them, free on-site parking, and a relaxed dress code that keeps things comfortable while you get things done.
