Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient- centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview Experience

Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with patients in health service organizations.

Lived experience and understanding of Indigenous healthcare priorities, services, and challenges alongside Indigenous culture, protocols, traditions, and values, both within communities and organizations in Manitoba.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or Bachelor of Nursing (BN) required.

A relevant combination of education, experience and competencies will be considered.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

Valid licensure with applicable regulatory body.

Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License; access to a vehicle and willingness to travel provincially throughout the province.

Qualifications and Skills

Knowledge of Indigenous languages is an asset.

Knowledge of Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and relationship between ISC and the Manitoba health care system.

Strong and culturally relevant communication, interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.

Proficient in written and verbal communication and collaboration, adept at building relationships with Indigenous partners.

Ability to relate effectively to a variety of people from diverse backgrounds.

Knowledge of Canadian colonial impacts on Indigenous people in social and health contexts.

Knowledge and appreciation of the unique history, cultures, and rights of Indigenous Peoples in Canada is required.

Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action (2015) and Manitoba’s Path to Reconciliation Act (2016).

Knowledge of Indigenous cultural safety and anti-racism actions, inquests and reports, e.g., Jordon’s Principle, Joyce’s Principle and Brian Sinclair Inquest.

Demonstrated knowledge of ethical principles and cultural protocols in interactions with Indigenous partners and organizations.

Knowledge or familiarity with Indigenous health issues, population health, and health status of citizens in Manitoba.

Knowledge of the Manitoba health care system, federal health care system, provincial and federal governance, and leadership models.

Working knowledge of, or experience working with, Indigenous governments, partners, organizations and communities at a service level and structures within Manitoba.

Thorough knowledge of Windows based programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Internet.

Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.

Demonstrated ability to facilitate patient transfers between health care facilities and renal units as well as between the various modalities used to treat kidney failure.

Ability to build strong relationships and support patient voice with leadership, engagement and empowerment.

Ability to travel to patients’ homes and the various health care and long-term care facilities.

Ability and awareness in Cultural safety and trauma informed.

Ability to maintains situational awareness to ensure safety while responding with empathy, cultural humility, and respect.

Physical Requirements

Sitting for prolonged periods of time.

May require to lift 25 lbs. on occasion.

Primary environment within office setting; with travel to communities and hospital locations.

Primarily day shift, Monday to Friday.

Weekend and evening work on occasion.

Travel, including gravel and winter roads and, where applicable, by small plane within Manitoba year-round.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
