This role offers the opportunity for an entrepreneurial and forward-thinking professional to lead impactful projects in the metals, infrastructure, and energy sectors, while providing technical leadership and mentorship from Hatch’s Mississauga headquarters on projects ranging from local initiatives to some of the world's most complex developments. Role

We are seeking a Senior Environmental Planner to join our growing Environment, People, and Place team in Ontario. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced environmental professional to lead complex infrastructure, energy, mining, transportation, and industrial projects across Canada and the United States. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing permitting and regulatory strategies, managing environmental assessments and approvals, leading multidisciplinary project teams, and building strong relationships with clients, regulators, Indigenous communities, and stakeholders. The role requires both technical expertise and strong consulting, project management, and business development skills. As a senior member of the team, you will help clients navigate complex regulatory environments while delivering practical, sustainable solutions that support project development throughout North America. Key Responsibilities

Environmental Planning & Regulatory Leadership

Lead environmental planning, permitting, environmental assessment, and impact assessment projects across North America, with a focus on Ontario and western Canada Develop regulatory and permitting strategies that facilitate effective approval outcomes for clients Apply global best practices while tailoring solutions to client-specific regulatory, environmental, and business contexts within the metals, mining, infrastructure, and energy sectors Support projects through all phases of development, from planning and approvals through construction, operations, and decommissioning Project Leadership & Delivery

Serve as Project Manager, Environmental Planning Lead, PLAA Lead, or Project Delivery Sponsor on complex multidisciplinary projects Be accountable for successful project execution, ensuring deliverables meet client expectations, regulatory requirements, budget, and schedule commitments, with appropriate communications to all applicable stakeholders Anticipate and resolve project challenges, navigating complex technical, environmental, and stakeholder issues Deliver measurable outcomes for clients, including risk reduction, permitting certainty, schedule improvements, and required environmental performance Provide technical oversight, quality assurance, and peer review for key project deliverables Client & Proposal Support

Build and maintain trusted client relationships through exceptional project delivery Lead or contribute to proposal development, including strategy, scope definition, execution approach, team planning, level-of-effort estimates, and technical reviews Support contract discussions and project scoping activities to establish project baselines to ensure successful outcomes Collaborate with colleagues across Hatch to provide integrated solutions that address client needs Leadership & Collaboration

Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary teams of environmental planners, scientists, engineers, and engagement professionals Provide strategic, technical, and commercial guidance to support successful project execution Recruit, coach, and develop the next generation of environmental leaders Support projects involving Indigenous and community engagement, socioeconomics, and placemaking, as required Champion Hatch’s values and commitment to creating positive change through collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence. Experience

What you bring: 10+ years of progressively responsible environmental planning, permitting, and/or regulatory experience in a consulting role Demonstrated successful leadership of environmental assessments and permitting programs for major projects across the mining and metals, power and utilities, renewable energy, or transportation infrastructure sectors Experience supporting projects across multiple jurisdictions across North America, with a focus on Ontario and western Canada Experience working alongside, with, or for Indigenous communities, developing long term relationships, and delivery partnerships Proven experience planning the execution of environmental services under an EPCM delivery model Experience with Federal Impact Assessment processes in Canada, Ontario Environmental Assessment and permitting processes, and Indigenous consultation and engagement programs Education

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Studies, Geography, Environmental Science, Engineering, Urban and Regional Planning, or a related discipline Master's degree considered an asset Professional Designation

Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation and membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) is preferred. MCIP designation is considered an asset. Other relevant professional certifications or registrations are beneficial. Required Skills

Strong project management and people leadership capabilities, taking ownership of project outcomes, connecting with the broader business for execution support, and knowing when to ask for help Consensus-building and multidiscipline team leadership skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a consulting environment Effective communication with strong analytical, writing, and presentation skills Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required This position would be based out of Hatch’s Mississauga, Ontario office. It may be possible to be based out of Hatch’s Niagara Falls, Ontario or Bowmanville, Ontario for the right candidate. Base salary range:

$115,000 - $165,000 At Hatch, we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. In accordance with legislated pay transparency requirements, the expected salary range for this position is based on current market data and aligned with internal pay structures to ensure consistency and fairness. Your individual compensation within this range will depend on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications and location.
