Role Responsibilities

Help Shape Leadership Across the Alberta Public Service If you're passionate about leadership, curious about people potential, and energized by helping organizations make thoughtful talent decisions, this role offers a unique opportunity to influence leadership across the Alberta Public Service (APS). The Leadership and Talent Management Branch is building a stronger, more integrated approach to executive talent management across the APS. We partner with senior leaders to strengthen leadership pipelines, improve succession readiness, and support thoughtful talent decisions that help organizations meet current and future priorities. As a Senior Talent Management Consultant, you will work with Deputy Ministers, Assistant Deputy Ministers, Executive Directors, HR leaders, and executive search partners to help identify, develop, and mobilize leadership talent across government. Your work will influence succession planning, leadership development, executive movement, and enterprise talent strategies that strengthen leadership capacity across the APS. This role combines strategic advising, talent management, analytics, program design, and organizational consulting. Provide advice to senior leaders on executive talent management, succession planning, leadership readiness, and talent mobility. Partner with ministries to identify leadership risks, opportunities, and succession priorities. Design and enhance talent management frameworks, programs, tools, and practices. Facilitate talent discussions that help leaders make informed decisions about current and future leadership needs. Use talent data, analytics, and insights to support evidence-informed decision-making. Lead initiatives that strengthen succession outcomes across government. Collaborate with internal and external partners to advance innovative approaches to leadership and talent management. Education

A degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related discipline is typically required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. What You’ll Gain

Minimum Recruitment Standard : Education: University Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field. Experience: 4-years of related experience in enterprise‑level Talent Management, leading the design, modernization, and integration of enterprise‑wide systems and programs, such as, succession frameworks, leadership development, workforce planning, or organizational effectiveness initiatives. Equivalency: Two-way : A related 2-year diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution and 6-years of related experience. A related 1-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and 7-years of related experience. Directly related education or experience considered based on 1-year of education for 1-year of experience; or 1-year of experience for 1-year of education. Role requirements : Candidates must demonstrate experience in one or more of the following areas: Talent management and succession planning. Leadership development and organizational development. Strategic human resource consulting and advisory services. Workforce planning and talent analytics. Executive talent management, assessment and leadership readiness processes. Designing and implementing talent management programs, frameworks, tools, or systems. The successful candidate will have: Experience providing advice and recommendations to senior leaders. Strong facilitation, stakeholder engagement, and relationship management skills. The ability to analyze information and translate insights into meaningful recommendations and action. Experience navigating complex, sensitive, and confidential matters requiring sound judgment and discretion. The ability to work collaboratively across ministries and stakeholder groups to achieve enterprise outcomes. Experience in designing and enhancing talent management frameworks, programs, tools, and practices. Assets include: Experience working within the Government of Alberta or broader public sector environment. Knowledge of APS executive talent management, leadership development, and succession planning practices. Experience using workforce, talent, or leadership-related data to inform decision-making. Familiarity with APS corporate systems and processes. Minimum recruitment standards outline the minimum education and experience required for appointment to a job classification. Location : Edmonton. Hours of Work : 36.25 Hours per week, Monday to Friday onsite. This is a permanent full-time position.
