Who We Are Simon Fraser University is a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future. Our purpose – the essence of SFU – is to create and connect knowledge, learning and community for deeper understanding and meaningful impact. We are committed to fostering excellence, innovation, belonging and community in all that we do.

In the School of Medicine, we are committed to shaping the future of healthcare through innovative education, groundbreaking research, and community engagement. As we embark on this journey to redefine medical education, we are seeking passionate individuals who are eager to contribute to our mission.

We envision a medical education system where students and residents learn as part of a team in primary care, community-level settings and patient‑centred environments. Our curriculum considers social, environmental and prevention contexts while seeking to advance reconciliation by embedding and equalizing Indigenous knowledge systems in our learning, research and practices. As we establish the School of Medicine in Surrey, B.C., we will foster our growing relationships with the local community, Fraser Health Authority, First Nations Health Authority, physicians and Indigenous partners who will help us meet the diverse health needs of the communities we serve. We seek to improve access to primary care throughout the province while resting on a solid foundation of high‑quality, accredited education and world‑class research efforts that keep us oriented toward measurable and socially accountable outcomes.

About The Role The Community Engagement Coordinator supports the Stephens Family School of Medicine in developing and strengthening relationships with communities, partners, and stakeholders across British Columbia. This role coordinates engagement initiatives, supports partnership activities, and ensures community perspectives inform the School’s programs and priorities. Working collaboratively with internal teams, Indigenous Health Stewardship, and external partners, the Coordinator helps deliver inclusive, culturally safe, and meaningful engagement practices aligned with the School’s commitment to reconciliation and equity. Key responsibilities include supporting consultations, events, relationship management, project coordination, and engagement reporting. This role provides an opportunity to contribute to the growth of a new medical school by fostering connections, enhancing community collaboration, and supporting initiatives that advance accessible, community‑informed healthcare education.

The ideal candidate is a relationship‑focused and detail‑oriented professional with experience supporting community engagement, partnerships, and project coordination. They have strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse communities, internal teams, and external stakeholders. The successful candidate understands equity, accessibility, cultural safety, and reconciliation principles and applies them to engagement activities. They are adaptable, proactive, and skilled at managing multiple priorities, coordinating events, maintaining accurate records, and supporting initiatives that strengthen community connections and advance the School’s priorities.

Qualifications Diploma or bachelor’s degree in community development, public administration, social sciences, Indigenous studies, communications, public health, education, project management, or a related field and 3 years of experience in community engagement, partnership coordination, project coordination, event planning or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience.

Demonstrated experience supporting community engagement, stakeholder partnerships, project coordination, or outreach initiatives within a community, healthcare, public sector, or post‑secondary setting.

Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse groups and community partners.

Understanding of equity, accessibility, cultural safety, and reconciliation‑based engagement practices.

Strong organizational and coordination abilities, with experience managing multiple projects, timelines, and engagement activities.

Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools and digital platforms to support documentation, reporting, collaboration, and stakeholder management.
