Job description
Type: In-Office, Full-Time About Our Client Our client is a well-established and highly respected organization in the insurance industry, with a strong presence in Western Canada and a long-standing commitment to protecting the people, businesses, and communities it serves. Built on a foundation of trust, integrity, service, and community, the organization has developed a strong reputation for delivering reliable insurance solutions while maintaining a people-first culture. This is an exciting opportunity to join a stable and essential industry while playing a direct role in strengthening the organization’s cybersecurity posture. As cyber threats continue to evolve, the Cybersecurity Analyst will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by protecting critical systems, data, employees, and customers while helping shape and continuously improve the organization’s security strategy. Key Responsibilities As the Cybersecurity Analyst, you will join the Computer, Networks and Infrastructure (CNI) team and play a key role in designing, implementing, managing, and continuously improving the organization’s cybersecurity defences. You will stay ahead of emerging threats, identify opportunities to strengthen security controls, and translate evolving cybersecurity practices into practical business value. Cybersecurity Operations & Threat Detection Monitor security events, alerts, sensors, and data sources to ensure potential threats are identified, investigated, correlated, and escalated appropriately. Manage and administer intrusion detection and prevention systems, firewalls, network devices, and other security technologies. Proactively hunt for cyber threats and investigate suspicious activity, security breaches, and other cybersecurity incidents. Monitor Help Desk activity and respond to tickets involving cybersecurity concerns or potential security risks. Maintain strong visibility across the organization’s security environment and identify opportunities to improve threat detection and response capabilities. Incident Response & Risk Management Lead the development and ongoing improvement of the organization’s Cybersecurity Incident Response Plan. Serve as the primary escalation point for cybersecurity incidents and coordinate appropriate response and remediation activities. Participate in high-severity incident response and provide 24/7 availability when critical security incidents require escalation. Conduct vulnerability testing, risk analyses, and security assessments to identify weaknesses and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies. Remediate identified vulnerabilities and help maintain a consistently high standard of security across the organization. Security Strategy, Compliance & Best Practices Develop and champion company-wide cybersecurity best practices, policies, standards, and procedures. Research emerging cybersecurity threats, technologies, industry standards, and leading practices and translate findings into actionable recommendations. Work closely with business stakeholders, software development, and the CNI team to implement secure solutions that support business objectives. Help ensure technology environments and practices remain aligned with applicable regulatory requirements and recognized industry standards. Assess vendors and third parties to ensure their security practices align with organizational data protection policies and expectations. Regularly assess and report on the organization’s overall cybersecurity posture, highlighting risks, trends, and opportunities for improvement. Security Awareness & Collaboration Develop and lead cybersecurity awareness initiatives and training exercises that help employees recognize and respond to security threats. Build strong, professional relationships with internal teams and end-users while serving as a trusted resource for cybersecurity guidance. Provide mentorship, knowledge sharing, and training to colleagues to strengthen cybersecurity capabilities across the organization. Collaborate with technical and business teams to research solutions, solve complex security challenges, and embed security into day-to-day operations. Bring a strong “say-do” mindset, with a focus on executing initiatives successfully and delivering measurable value to the business. Continuous Learning & Innovation Stay current with the rapidly evolving cybersecurity threat landscape, technologies, countermeasures, and best practices. Continuously research new security enhancements and make recommendations to management based on organizational needs and emerging risks. Pursue relevant cybersecurity certifications and professional development while applying new knowledge in ways that create tangible value for the organization. Identify opportunities to strengthen existing processes, technologies, and controls through continuous improvement. Qualifications To succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate: Education & Experience 5–7 years of progressive experience in cybersecurity, information security, or a closely related field. 2+ years of hands-on experience securing and monitoring Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 environments. Experience with application and infrastructure penetration testing tools and vulnerability assessment practices. Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, including networks, operating systems, protocols, and security technologies. Post-secondary education in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, or a related discipline is an asset. Relevant cybersecurity certifications are considered an asset. Technical Skills Experience administering and monitoring firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, network devices, and security monitoring technologies. Knowledge of cybersecurity incident response, threat detection, vulnerability management, and risk assessment. Experience working with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 security environments. Familiarity with penetration testing, security assessment, and vulnerability remediation tools. Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, industry standards, regulatory requirements, and information security best practices. Ability to research and evaluate emerging cybersecurity technologies and translate technical findings into practical recommendations. Key Competencies Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to identify risks and implement effective solutions. Proactive and curious mindset with a genuine interest in threat hunting and emerging cybersecurity risks. Self-motivated and resourceful, with the ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities. Strong communication skills with the ability to explain cybersecurity concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a collaborative, high-pressure environment. Strong mentoring and knowledge-sharing capabilities with a desire to help others develop their cybersecurity awareness and skills. High degree of flexibility, adaptability, and sound judgment when responding to evolving security threats and business needs. Passion for continuous learning and professional development in the rapidly changing cybersecurity field. What You’ll Experience Competitive base compensation with annual bonus eligibility. A strong work-life balance, including a day off every four weeks. Matching contributions to a Registered Pension Plan. Personal insurance reimbursement.
