ENVIRONMENTAL AND SUSTAINABILITY COORDINATOR Salary Range: $77,400 - $96,751 per year

1.0 FTE Temporary Position (approximately October 5, 2026 to January 7, 2028)

The Simcoe County District School Board is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Environmental and Sustainability Coordinator to work as a member of the Maintenance and Environmental Services team. The successful candidate will build awareness and commitment to environmental, sustainability and conservation programs as it aligns with the SCDSB strategic priorities and operational plans through the development and delivery of promotional and educational materials, presentations, and training programs, including EcoSchools Canada, to staff, students, and administrators. They will coordinate the planning and delivery of environmental programs such as waste diversion and collection, water conservation and other environment and sustainability strategies at all SCDSB sites. The Environmental and Sustainability Coordinator will ensure the SCDSB is in compliance with regulatory requirements as it relates to this position. They should have strong communication skills, a passion for creating change and facilitation skills.

Qualifications, Pertinent Skills and Experience:

University degree in Environmental Science, Geography, Sustainability or equivalent;

Certificate/diploma or training in building systems and sustainability;

Knowledge of environmental regulations, including waste, energy, water, conservation, and environmental protection;

Experience and training in group facilitation, developing and delivering workshops and educational materials/programs to various groups including students (K-12), teachers, administrative staff, public, political, and industry professionals;

Excellent project management and analytical skills;

Knowledge of alternative energy, energy revenue generating programs, energy markets and sustainability;

Strong oral and written communication skills;

Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills;

Understanding of utility management systems, building automation systems and general understanding of building maintenance and operations an asset;

Ability to adapt quickly to a dynamic, evolving environment;

Working knowledge of relevant computer software programs, e.g., MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

Previous experience in an education environment would be an asset;

A valid driver's license and reliable vehicle are required as this position will require travel to various sites throughout Simcoe County.

This is a full-time temporary position from October 5, 2026 to January 7, 2028. The regular work year for this position is twelve (12) months of the year. The compensation range for this twelve (12) month position is $77,400 - $96,751 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. The normal work week for this position is thirty-five (35) hours.

Participation in the OMERS Pension Plan is mandatory for all full-time permanent employees,

even if currently in receipt of an OMERS pension.

New hires to the Simcoe County District School Board will be required to submit a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) that is satisfactory to the Board prior to beginning employment. All new employees will be required to complete mandatory training modules with the Board prior to their first day of employment.
