Shell Chemicals and Products Refining is a vital segment of Shell's global operations, transforming crude oil and feedstocks into fuels, petrochemicals, and specialty chemicals, while continuously updating its portfolio to include sustainable chemicals made from bio-based and circular feedstocks to support low-carbon and sustainability goals.

Within Canada, the Chemicals and Products Refining team manages a large 3rd party spend portfolio through a robust supply chain infrastructure spanning multiple warehouses in country and suppliers across the world. The team ensures efficient delivery of services and products to the sites such as materials, equipment, maintenance services, project services, as well as warehousing and logistics solutions.

What’s The Role The Contracts Management Lead (SC Commercial Lead Americas internally) is an asset-based role is located at the Sarnia Manufacturing Centre in Sarnia, Ontario and is responsible for leading strategic sourcing, contracting, and supplier management activities supporting Maintenance, Production, and Turnaround operations.

The role is accountable for managing annual contracting spend at Sarnia and for developing and executing category strategies across the Canadian Chemicals and Products (C+P) portfolio, including the Sarnia and Scotford Refining assets. The successful candidate will deliver commercial value, mitigate risk, drive supplier performance, and ensure alignment between business objectives and Supply Chain strategies.

What You’ll Be Doing Key Accountabilities Strategic Sourcing and Contracting Excellence

Lead the end-to-end sourcing and contracting process in accordance with Company Category Management and Contracting & Procurement frameworks.

Assess business demand, market conditions, and supply capabilities to develop and execute fit-for-purpose sourcing strategies.

Lead supplier negotiations, contract structuring, award recommendations, implementation activities, and ongoing contract management.

Ensure appropriate governance, commercial assurance, and approval requirements are met for strategy and contract awards.

Optimize buying channels and demand management practices to drive efficiency, compliance, and value realization.

Value Creation and Risk Management

Deliver sustainable value through both strategic sourcing activities and post-award contract management.

Drive supplier performance, accountability, and continuous improvement to enhance total cost of ownership and operational outcomes.

Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial, operational, and market risks, including labour constraints, material shortages, supplier capacity limitations, and business continuity risks.

Ensure contracts comply with Company, legal, and regulatory requirements, and effectively manage contractual obligations, claims, disputes, and escalations.

Leverage strong commercial acumen and contracting expertise to negotiate favorable terms and conditions while appropriately managing risk.

Supplier and Market Management

Develop and maintain a deep understanding of supplier markets, industry trends, and competitive dynamics.

Establish and manage strategic supplier relationships to enhance performance, foster innovation, and create commercial advantage.

Utilize market intelligence and data-driven insights to inform sourcing decisions and category strategies.

Strategic Business Partnership

Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, contract owners, and contract holders across multiple sites to align procurement strategies with business priorities.

Provide commercial leadership and influence key stakeholders through effective communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, and data-based decision-making.

Support long-term planning activities, including turnaround preparation, maintenance strategies, and broader business initiatives.

Qualifications & Competencies Commercial and Contracting Expertise

Demonstrated experience developing and executing sourcing strategies, leading commercial negotiations, and structuring complex contractual agreements.

Strong understanding of contract management principles, including contract implementation, performance management, supplier governance, and dispute resolution.

Business and Commercial Acumen

Proven ability to deliver measurable business value through strategic sourcing, commercial optimization, and execution excellence.

Strong analytical, financial, and risk management capabilities.

Negotiation and Influencing Skills

Extensive front-line negotiation experience with suppliers and contractors.

Ability to influence stakeholders and achieve alignment across diverse and complex business environments.

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility across all organizational levels.

Demonstrated ability to lead through influence and effectively manage competing priorities and stakeholder interests.

Learning Agility and Continuous Improvement

Self-motivated and adaptable professional with a growth mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Proven ability to lead and support change initiatives in dynamic business environments.

Supplier Performance and Risk Management

Experience establishing supplier performance frameworks, managing contract compliance, and driving corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.

Strong focus on safety, operational excellence, and risk mitigation.

What You Bring

The candidate must have legal authorization to work in the Canada on a full-time basis

Minimum 10+ years of experience in Supply Chain, Contracting, Procurement, Commercial, or related disciplines, including demonstrated experience leading complex strategic sourcing and contracting activities within industrial operations

Degree or postgraduate qualification in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related discipline, and/or relevant industry experience

Broad knowledge of maintenance, construction, turnaround, and operational services contracting within the petrochemical, refining, energy, or heavy industrial sectors

Proven experience managing complex commercial portfolios and high-value contractual agreements

Experience supporting multi-site operations and collaborating across cross-functional stakeholder groups

What We Offer The base salary range for this position is $110,000 - $155,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
