Looking for an opportunity to step into a leadership role and help build new audio programming from the ground up?

CBC Hamilton is hiring a producer to help launch a new weekday morning current affairs radio program and a weekly news podcast as well as help create compelling programming across all platforms to serve audiences in the Hamilton region.

We are looking for a strong, dynamic journalist who is innovative and adaptive, and who inspires others to experiment and take risks. You will be a strategic thinker who puts audience needs at the centre of your decision-making, ensuring our programming connects our audiences to the news they need to know, the stories that affect their lives and the issues that resonate in their communities.

As someone with a proven track record of growing audiences, you will work with the executive producer to develop a vision for the new radio program and podcast, including how to broaden their reach beyond radio audiences through digital and visual storytelling and community outreach. You will understand how to program for a live daily audio show with an ear and an eye for content that can reach audiences on other platforms.

As such, you will work with other producers to oversee the station’s newsgathering resources, deciding what stories to cover, when, how and by whom. You will help coordinate chasing breaking news, programming our digital services, vetting text, audio, and video content across platforms, and coordinating with other CBC News locations.

You have experience assigning and managing the work of others. You possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, are a strong planner and organizer, and are at ease with juggling multiple tasks and priorities at once.

You will strive to broaden the range of perspectives and experiences reflected in our news content, especially those from people who have been traditionally underrepresented in the media. You will ensure that all our work adheres to CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices and that it upholds our core principles of accuracy, fairness, balance, impartiality and integrity.

You care about the people you work with and have a recognized ability to coach and motivate others.
