Job description
Director, Business Development ROHL Global Networks Inc Acheson, Alberta, Canada

About this position Director, Business Development

Data Center Construction, Dark Fiber & Turnkey Infrastructure (U.S. & Canada)

About ROHL Global Networks ROHL Global Networks is the cross-border digital infrastructure platform of the ROHL Group of Companies. In the United States and Canada, we are a large constructor of fiber optic networks and renewable energy projects, with in-house electrical and civil construction capabilities on both sides of the border. In Canada, we also own and operate long-haul dark fiber in Alberta — one of North America's fastest-growing data center markets. We build what we sell: routes, conduit, connectivity, and power.

Alberta is emerging as a premier destination for AI and hyperscale data center development, driven by available power, land, cold climate, and competitive economics. Paired with our fiber and renewable energy construction operations across both countries, this positions us to deliver turnkey site, space, and power solutions for edge compute and data center requirements. We are hiring our first U.S.-based business development leader to carry that combined offering to market.

The Role Your primary focus is sales. You will pursue fiber optic construction opportunities on both the U.S. and Canadian sides of the market, target U.S. and international customers for dark fiber IRUs on our Alberta, Canada network and for network construction, and sell turnkey site, space, and power solutions in Canada. Fiber optic construction efforts will center on the edge compute and data center verticals across Alaska and the Lower 48.

We expect dark fiber demand from American, European, and Asian companies in the edge compute, data center, and IT verticals — including hyperscaler network sourcing teams, data center developers and operators, edge compute providers, carriers, and infrastructure investors. IRU and telecom connectivity opportunities include clients seeking terrestrial connectivity between the Lower 48 and Alaska through Canada, as well as traffic from data center and edge compute sites in Alberta transiting to the Lower 48 and/or Alaska.

This is a hunter role. You will be backed by an established fiber network, owned construction capacity, direct relationships with Alberta utilities and the provincial grid operator, and existing carrier relationships in Alaska supporting cross-border traffic between Alaska, Canada, and the Lower 48. You will report directly to the CEO.

What You Will Do

Originate, negotiate, and close dark fiber IRU, conduit, and Layer 2 services agreements on our Alberta, Canada network with U.S. and international customers

Develop and win fiber optic construction opportunities in both the U.S. and Canadian markets, including long-haul fiber builds serving the data center and edge compute verticals across the Lower 48 and Alaska

Pursue renewable energy project construction opportunities in the Lower 48, leveraging our active U.S. energy construction operations

Sell turnkey site, space, and power solutions in Canada for edge compute and data center deployments, coordinating our fiber, energy, and construction capabilities into a unified offer

Develop and maintain relationships with hyperscaler network sourcing and infrastructure procurement teams, data center developers, edge compute providers, and carrier wholesale groups

Structure anchor-tenant-funded route expansions: identify demand for new routes, and package prepaid IRU commitments that fund construction

Qualify and develop opportunities for U.S. data center operators evaluating Alberta for future capacity

Represent the company at key industry events (PTC, Metro Connect USA, ITW, DCD>Connect, Data Centre West, and regional data center conferences), including pre-booked meeting programs

Build and maintain a disciplined pipeline and forecast in CRM; provide market intelligence on pricing, competitive routes, and demand trends

Work closely with our Alberta-based engineering, construction, and executive teams on solution design, route feasibility, and proposal development

Support contract negotiation through execution, working with legal counsel on IRU, FRA, construction, and services agreements

What You Bring

8+ years of business development or sales experience in dark fiber, wholesale connectivity, data center development, or digital infrastructure construction, with a verifiable record of closed transactions

Existing, active relationships with hyperscaler network sourcing teams, data center operators, and/or carrier wholesale buyers

Fluency in route economics, IRU deal structures, conduit and construction fundamentals, and the data center site-selection process

Working knowledge of data center power, site development, and edge compute requirements — enough to credibly scope a turnkey opportunity

Demonstrated ability to run long sales cycles (12-24 months) independently from a home office as part of a small, entrepreneurial team

Strong negotiation and written communication skills; comfort presenting to C-level and procurement audiences

Willingness to travel throughout the U.S. and to Alberta, Canada

Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship

Nice to Have

Experience with cross-border (U.S.- Canada) network routes or transactions

Familiarity with power markets, energy infrastructure, or the intersection of generation and data center development

Existing knowledge of the Western Canadian or Pacific Northwest connectivity landscape

Experience at a dark fiber operator (e.g., Zayo, Lumen, Crown Castle Fiber, or similar), a data center developer, or a hyperscaler network team

Why This Role

Ground-floor commercial leadership in a group that owns its network and its construction capacity — no waiting on third parties to build what you sell

A rare mandate spanning fiber, construction, and turnkey power — multiple ways to win with every customer

Direct access to ownership; decisions in days, not quarters

A defensible position in a market with a structural advantage: Alberta has the power U.S. markets are running out of

Uncapped commission on high-value infrastructure transactions

Location: Remote, Canada — strong preference for Western Canada
