Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC)

The Role

Are you ready for a truly unique career opportunity? We are looking for an enthusiastic and forward‑thinking pharmacist to join our vibrant and highly skilled Neuro‑pharmacy team within the renowned Institute of Neurological Sciences (INS) at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.

This is a rare chance to step into a cutting‑edge regional service delivering specialist care across neurology, neurosurgery, neuro‑critical care, oral & maxillofacial surgery, and spinal injuries. In this role, you will deliver a highly specialist, patient‑centred clinical pharmacy service that is both safe and effective, covering over 200 inpatient beds in addition to providing specialist pharmacist input at outpatient clinics.

We’re looking for someone who brings confidence, enthusiasm, and a collaborative mindset to a busy and highly specialist environment. Exceptional communication and leadership skills are essential. Candidate should have relevant post registration clinical experience and should have completed their independent prescribing qualification.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

  • Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
  • Monday to Friday, on‑call, weekend, extended hours and public holiday rotas as required
  • Permanent , full‑time

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialist pharmaceutical care to patients within designated clinical specialties and multidisciplinary teams
  • Provide expert advice to healthcare professionals, patients and carers on the safe and effective use of medicines
  • Identify, assess and help manage risks associated with prescribing, administration and use of medicines
  • Participate in ward rounds, clinical meetings and discharge planning to optimise patient outcomes
  • Support the education, supervision and development of pharmacy staff, trainees and other healthcare professionals
  • Contribute to clinical audit, research, quality improvement initiatives and service development projects
  • Promote safe, evidence‑based and cost‑effective prescribing in line with local and national guidance

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job

  • Master's Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent qualification
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Demonstrable post‑registration experience as a pharmacist delivering clinical pharmacy services
  • Strong knowledge of medicines legislation, clinical pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical care principles
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills with the ability to influence and advise healthcare professionals
  • Ability to analyse complex clinical information, manage risk and make sound professional judgements
  • Strong organisational, numeracy and IT skills with the ability to prioritise workload and work effectively within a busy healthcare environment
