Job description

Play an integral role in Worley Consulting's Environmental & Sustainability (E&S) group, supporting impactful environmental and water resource projects across Alberta. As a Junior Hydrogeologist, you will contribute to projects that help clients responsibly manage groundwater resources, assess environmental risks, and support sustainable development. Working with multidisciplinary environmental teams, you will gain hands‑on experience and build a consulting career within a global organization committed to safety, sustainability, and operational excellence.

Purpose of the role

The Junior Hydrogeologist supports hydrogeological and environmental projects through field investigations, technical analysis, data management, and reporting. This role helps inform client decisions, regulatory compliance, and long‑term resource management while building technical and consulting skills across Alberta's energy, mining, industrial, and infrastructure sectors.

Location(s)

This full‑time position may be based in Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta. The role includes a combination of office and field‑based work, with more than 50% of time spent supporting field programs. Field assignments may involve rotational schedules of up to three weeks in duration and travel to client sites throughout Alberta. Preference may be given to candidates who are comfortable working in remote locations and outdoor environments.

You will be responsible for

  • Supporting the delivery of hydrogeological and environmental consulting projects from planning through execution and reporting.
  • Executing groundwater and surface water monitoring programs, including data collection, field measurements, and environmental sampling.
  • Conducting potable water sampling and supporting environmental compliance and assessment activities.
  • Coordinating and overseeing contractors during drilling, borehole logging, monitoring well installation, and related field investigations.
  • Performing hydrogeological characterization and assessment activities to support environmental studies, resource evaluations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collecting and managing environmental and hydrogeological data.
  • Preparing technical reports, field summaries, and supporting documentation for clients.
  • Assisting with the development of work plans and schedules.
  • Maintaining positive working relationships with clients, project partners, regulators, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Contributing to the delivery of high‑quality technical work that meets project objectives, budgets, and timelines.
  • Promoting and maintaining alignment with Worley's strong health, safety, and sustainability culture.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary teams while continuously building technical and consulting capabilities.

Required Qualifications

What you'll bring to the role

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geoscience, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Typically 1 to 4 years of environmental consulting or applicable industry experience.
  • Membership with, or eligibility for registration with, APEGA.
  • Knowledge of groundwater science, hydrogeological characterization, and environmental field investigations.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality deliverables.
  • Strong planning, organization, and time management capabilities.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta driver's licence or ability to obtain one.
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada at the time of application.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post‑graduate degree in Hydrogeology or a related discipline.
  • Academic or practical experience in physical hydrogeology, groundwater‑surface water interactions, and water resource evaluation.
  • Knowledge of geochemistry, contaminant hydrogeology, and environmental assessment principles.
  • Exposure to quantitative hydrogeology, groundwater flow analysis, and numerical modelling techniques.
  • Experience conducting field investigations, including soil and groundwater sampling, drilling programs, well construction, hydraulic testing, and related monitoring activities.
  • Consulting experience within the energy, oil and gas, mining, or industrial sectors.
