💰 Competitive Pay: $37.00 - $44.00 per hour (Based on experience)

We are seeking an Automotive Exterior Design Release Engineer to support the development of next-generation vehicle programs. In this role, you will collaborate with design studios, engineering teams, and manufacturing stakeholders to ensure vehicle concepts evolve into production-ready designs while maintaining styling intent, technical feasibility, and quality standards.
This is an exciting opportunity for professionals who have experience in automotive packaging, vehicle integration, design release, product development, or studio engineering environments.
What You'll Do
- Support conceptual and production vehicle development by managing packaging criteria and vehicle bogey models.
- Ensure feasible digital surface development throughout the vehicle design process.
- Coordinate design studio activities including:
- Clay model development
- Theme evaluations
- Vehicle mock-ups
- Spaciousness studies
- Work closely with fabrication and modeling teams to support prototype builds and design validation activities.
- Prepare and manage milling and SLA data for clay models, aerodynamic evaluations, and prototype components.
- Lead and facilitate weekly engineering and design review meetings.
- Coordinate requirements across multiple functional teams, including:
- Advanced Engineering
- Vehicle Integration
- Human Machine Interface (HMI)
- Safety Engineering
- Body & Closures Engineering
- Support Construction Section development and approval activities related to style freeze and production releases.
- Review and challenge engineering requirements to preserve design intent and vehicle aesthetics.
- Verify design releases meet packaging, tooling, manufacturing, and vehicle hardpoint requirements.
- Present updates and recommendations during design coordination reviews and cross-functional meetings.
- Ensure production content aligns with approved styling themes and program objectives.
- Monitor competitive vehicle trends and benchmark industry-leading design practices.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Automotive Engineering
- Industrial Design
- Product Design
- Related Engineering Discipline
- Experience in automotive product development, vehicle integration, packaging, design release, or studio engineering.
- Knowledge of automotive design and development processes.
- Experience working with cross-functional engineering and design teams.
- Strong understanding of vehicle packaging principles and production feasibility requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
- Strong presentation, communication, and project coordination skills.
- Experience supporting production releases and design approvals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous OEM automotive experience (Stellantis, Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda, etc.).
- Experience supporting vehicle design studios or Product Design Office (PDO) environments.
- Familiarity with:
- Vehicle hardpoints
- Gap & Flush development
- Surface development processes
- Prototype vehicle builds
- Benchmarking activities
- CAD and digital design review experience.
- Understanding of automotive tooling and manufacturing considerations.
