What is the Opportunity?

Aecon Construction Solutions Inc. (ACSI) is a multi-disciplined construction company offering superior civil, electrical and mechanical services including piping, insulation, scaffolding, and module fabrication. From fabrication and modularization to new builds, turnarounds and maintenance, ACSI leads the way in industrial construction and water infrastructure, providing clients with vertically integrated solutions and exceptional self-perform work.

Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Piping Superintendent is responsible for leading the execution of piping and mechanical scopes on complex industrial projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, in compliance with contractual requirements, and to the highest standards of quality and workmanship.

Please note: This is a site-based position supporting projects across Western Canada.

What You'll Do Here

  • Participate in bid reviews to validate constructability, labour productivity, and piping quantities.
  • Lead field execution of piping scopes including installation, assembly, testing, and commissioning of piping systems.
  • Review and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and welding procedures to ensure accurate installation and compliance.
  • Oversee and coordinate pipefitting, steamfitting, and welding activities to meet project specifications and quality standards.
  • Ensure proper installation methods are followed for systems involving flow, pressure, and temperature requirements.
  • Monitor inspection and testing of piping systems, including hydrotesting, leak testing, and quality control checks.
  • Work closely with EHS teams to enforce project-specific safety programs and maintain Aecon’s strong safety culture.
  • Develop and manage detailed construction and look-ahead schedules, aligning labour, materials, and equipment.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, union trades, and internal stakeholders to ensure efficient execution of work.
  • Lead troubleshooting and problem-solving activities related to piping installation, system integrity, and constructability challenges.
  • Interface with clients to provide updates on piping progress and resolve field-related concerns.
  • Support change management processes, including scope changes, schedule impacts, and material adjustments.
  • Mentor and develop forepersons, journeypersons, and apprentices while fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.
  • Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies in collaboration with project teams.
  • Act as the construction lead for piping scopes in coordination with Project Management, Quality, Engineering, and Project Controls teams.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Minimum 5+ years of industrial construction experience, with significant focus on piping and mechanical systems.
  • Proven experience in a supervisory or superintendent-level role overseeing pipefitting/steamfitting scopes.
  • Strong knowledge of piping systems, installation methods, welding processes, and pressure systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications.
  • Valid Journeyperson Pipefitter/Steamfitter certification or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of quality control, inspection processes, and testing requirements (e.g., hydrotesting).
  • Demonstrated leadership ability managing craft labour in a fast-paced environment.
  • Solid understanding of industrial safety protocols, including confined space, fall protection, and hazard management.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills to manage multiple work fronts.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and fostering an inclusive work environment.

Aecon fosters diversity, inclusion and belonging within and across our organization. We welcome all to apply including, women, visible minorities, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity.

We are committed to adhering to the objectives and requirements outlined in the Accessible Canada Act (ACA), and to meeting the accessibility needs of persons with disabilities in a timely manner. Through the implementation of the requirements of the ACA and its applicable regulations, appropriate accommodations will be provided upon request throughout the interview and hiring process.
