About the role

Join the Housing Programs Servicing team, in the Bilingual Senior Specialist, Multi-Unit Servicing and Default Management position. This is a unique opportunity to help build a servicing function for Housing Programs from the ground up. In this role, you will play a key part in developing a new team dedicated to managing servicing operations, delivering high-quality customer service, and safeguarding CMHC’s interests. We are looking for someone to provide strong leadership, guidance and coaching to team members to ensure financial, legal, property management and all other appropriate practices and policies are applied to servicing requests. You will provide expert functional and strategic advice and guidance to internal and external clients and will take the lead role when dealing with more complex and politically sensitive issues.

This is a temporary position of a duration of up to 24 months.

What you’ll do:

  • Conduct in-depth reviews or approval on requests pertaining to CMHC loans, including covenant amendments, changes to special conditions, borrower structure modification requests, security releases, and partial sales, ensuring no additional risk is assumed by CMHC.
  • Be a subject matter expert and first point of escalation providing support to other team members.
  • Ensure an in-depth analysis is conducted and recommend fitting solutions to resolve complex and delicate situations and customer requests.
  • Provide leadership by managing workflow, improving operational processes and implementing initiatives to address a wide range of operational needs.
  • Coordinate all activities, policies, and procedures related to effective operation of the Multi-Unit (MU) servicing portfolio for assigned projects.
  • Provide expert advice regarding CMHC requirements to clients and stakeholders, including communicating key decisions, interpretating policies, and responding to inquiries.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions for continuous improvement to process, policy and strategy management based on operational experience.
  • Proactively communicate with key stakeholders, share expertise and lessons learned, and influence business strategies and practices.

What you should have:

  • An undergraduate degree in commerce, business administration, law, real estate and/or finance.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years experience working in Multi-Unit underwriting, real estate appraisal, business turnaround strategies, asset recovery, housing finance, or default management.
  • In-depth knowledge of risk of risk factors related to mortgage loans for market and social housing projects and multiple-unit projects with five or more units.
  • In depth knowledge of appraisal, market analysis, financial statement analysis and property management to be able to assess financial viability.
  • Strong knowledge of CMHC Housing Programs and Mortgage Loan Insurance.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills including strong negotiation skills and the ability to influence and persuade others.
  • Experience leading project teams.
  • Bilingual (French and Englis).

It would be great if you also had:

  • A professional designation such as Certified Property Manager (CPM), Canadian Risk Management (CRM), Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA0, Certified in Real Estate Finance (CRF), or any other recognized designation from the Real Estate Institute of Canada (REIC).
  • Experience in data analytics, business analytics, and financial modeling, with a proven ability to gather, interpret, and synthesize complex information to formulate recommendations, and provide strategic advice.
