Senior Mechanical Engineer

Position Description

Tetranex is seeking a full time Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong Oil & Gas experience (upstream, midstream, heavy oil, SAGD, or facility engineering).

The successful candidate will support engineering and procurement activities for projects located primarily in Alberta and Saskatchewan, including brownfield modifications and greenfield facility designs. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-discipline environment and enjoys taking projects from early concept through detailed engineering and construction.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and execute mechanical engineering activities for SAGD and oil & gas facility projects from concept through detailed design, procurement, construction, and commissioning support.
• Develop and review mechanical engineering deliverables including Design Basis Memorandums (DBMs), PFDs, P&IDs, plot plans, equipment layouts, and tie-in packages.
• Prepare, review, and maintain mechanical discipline deliverables including equipment lists, line lists, tie-point lists, SP item lists, mechanical specifications, and other engineering documentation.
• Develop and review mechanical datasheets and specifications for static equipment, rotating equipment, piping components, and packaged equipment.
• Prepare and review Material Requisitions (MRQs), Technical Bid Evaluations (TBEs), procurement packages, and vendor documentation.
• Review and approve vendor drawings, technical documents, calculations, and equipment data for compliance with project requirements, specifications, and applicable codes.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to intermediate and junior engineers and designers within the mechanical discipline.
• Support project execution through coordination with Process, Piping, Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls, Civil/Structural, Procurement, Construction, and Project Management teams.
• Provide regulatory support including preparation and review of ABSA and TSASK submissions and compliance documentation.
• Coordinate and support mechanical Construction Work Packages for fabrication, construction, and field execution.
• Provide construction and field engineering support, including responding to RFIs, technical queries, field changes, and specification deviations.
• Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, HAZOPs, and other project review meetings as required.
• Interface directly with clients, vendors, contractors, and internal project teams to resolve technical issues and maintain project objectives.
• Apply sound engineering judgement to identify solutions for complex technical challenges while maintaining safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives.
• Support continuous improvement of engineering practices, standards, specifications, and procedures.

Requirements:

• 10+ years of relevant Mechanical Engineering experience within an EPC/EPCM environment supporting oil & gas facilities.
• Experience with SAGD, thermal facilities, or upstream oil and gas facility engineering is considered an asset.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA.
• Strong understanding of ABSA, API, NACE, ASME, CSA, and other applicable provincial and federal regulations.
• Experience with mechanical equipment selection, sizing, specifications, datasheets, vendor document review, and procurement support.
• Ability to interpret and review engineering drawings, vendor documentation, specifications, and construction documents.
• Experience providing technical support during fabrication, construction, and commissioning activities.
• Strong understanding of EPC project execution, engineering workflows, and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with clients, vendors, contractors, and internal teams.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities and meet project deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, provide technical leadership, and contribute effectively within a project team.
