Law Society of BC is seeking a temporary, full-time Senior Policy Analyst in our Policy & Planning department for a 6-month term. The Senior Policy Analyst is responsible for providing research, analysis, advice and recommendations on key issues and policies affecting the Law Society's regulatory responsibilities and operations, as well as ongoing monitoring, measurement, and evaluation of the impacts of policies that are implemented. The nature of the work requires frequent contact with Board members ("Benchers"), committees, senior staff, and internal departments, and involves creativity and insight. Work is frequently provided to senior leadership, Committees, Task Forces and Benchers for decision. The Director, Policy & Strategic Initiatives provides guidance and oversight to the Senior Policy Analyst in the delivery of their functions.


The duties of the position include:



  • Developing advice and recommendations on regulations, policy and programs to the ED/CEO, senior management, committees and the Benchers, including the ongoing monitoring, measurement, and evaluation of the impacts of policies that are implemented.

  • Developing policy frameworks for the translation of the Law Society's strategic priorities or other issues required by the Law Society's mandate into viable policy and program changes.

  • Identifying emerging policy issues, risks, and opportunities for improvement relevant to the Law Society's strategic priorities and mandate, and preparing recommendations to senior management, Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer (ED/CEO), committees and Benchers.

  • Analyzing and identifying social, economic and legal issues associated with Law Society objectives, assessing competing and/or conflicting priorities, analyzing data, identifying risks and issues, identifying viable options to address the issues identified and recommending strategic policy alternatives or significant changes to Law Society regulation and programs.

  • Identifying and evaluating similar regulatory frameworks and programs in other jurisdictions or professions and recommending any appropriate changes to the Law Society's regulation and programs.

  • Preparing submissions to government or other external bodies that reflect Law Society policy positions.

  • Liaising with government, the public or professional bodies as may be required to effect analysis or development of policy recommendations.

  • Such other duties as the Director, Policy & Strategic Initiatives may assign.


Qualifications



  • A Bachelor’s Degree in public administration, public policy, social sciences, or a related discipline and a minimum of 5 years recent related experience in providing policy analysis and working in a comparable environment providing independent research, analysis and advice on complex issues, including evaluation of options and recommendations.

  • Strong verbal and written communication, presentation and interpersonal as well as facilitation skills to work effectively within diverse teams, work groups and across an organization to achieve group and organizational goals and to engage effectively with people from diverse backgrounds with diverse views.

  • Knowledge, experience, education, and/or certifications in regard to equity, diversity, and inclusion is an asset.


The salary range for this position is $91,303 to $113,558.
