Law Clerk/Legal Assistant - Hamilton

Responsibilities• Preparing, assembling, and organizing a wide range of legal documents, including pleadings, discovery documents, and affidavits of documents.
• Preparing comprehensive trial briefs, exhibit lists, and motion packages as required by the litigation team.
• Filing court documents electronically and in person in full compliance with the Rules of Civil Procedure.
• Maintaining meticulous electronic document files, legal records, incoming court orders, and written correspondence.
• Managing crucial court dates, limitation deadlines, client meetings, and lawyer calendars.
• Liaising professionally with clients, court staff, process servers, and opposing legal professionals under direction.
• Transcribing digital dictation accurately and promptly preparing routine legal correspondence.
• Attending and participating in legal team meetings, case strategy discussions, and ongoing supervision sessions.
• Executing additional legal support and administrative duties as assigned to ensure effective practice operations.
• Additional administrative duties as required
Qualifications• Post-secondary college diploma or certificate in Paralegal, Legal Assistant, or Law Clerk studies.
• At least 3 years of direct, practical experience working in civil litigation within a legal practice setting.
• Demonstrated expertise and working knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of Automated Civil Litigation (ACL), and LEAP practice-management software is an asset.
• Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario (ILCO) certification or active membership in good standing is considered a strong asset.
• Strong, practical understanding of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure and regional court filing practices.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills tailored for a professional legal environment.
• Outstanding organizational, file-management, and multitasking skills with high attention to detail in a fast-paced setting.
• Professional, positive, and collaborative approach to working within a multi-disciplinary legal team.
