We are looking for a VP, Finance and Technology to join our team!

Permanent: Full-Time, 35 Hours per Week, Evening Hours and Weekends may be required

Salary Range: $166,345-$231,806 *This represents the first and last step of a salary grid. Candidate experience and internal equity will be considered when determining the starting salary

Location: The CMHA home office for this role is Newmarket, located at 1101 Nicholson Road, Unit 5, Newmarket, ON L3Y 9C3 and the incumbent may be required to travel to other CMHA Offices in York Region and South Simcoe as required.

Job Profile

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President, Finance and Technology provides strategic and operational leadership for the organization’s financial ecosystem, including financial planning, budgeting, reporting, decision support, risk management, and long-term financial sustainability. The role is responsible for ensuring strong financial stewardship, effective systems and processes, and reliable data to support organizational decision-making, performance monitoring, and accountability.

As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Vice President, Finance and Technology advises senior management, board partnership for finance and technology, and external agencies on the financial performance of the organization and supports the achievement of strategic and operational priorities. The role provides leadership in developing and implementing strategic priorities, policies, processes, and systems that strengthen the overall financial health, operational effectiveness, and future readiness of the association.

Duties

  • Provide executive leadership and oversight for the organization’s finance portfolio, ensuring strong financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, decision support, and financial accountability.
  • Serve as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team and contribute to organizational strategy, enterprise-wide planning, risk management, and decision-making.
  • Interpret and provide advice to senior management, the Board, and external agencies regarding the organization’s financial performance, risks, opportunities, and resource requirements.
  • Lead the development and implementation of short- and long-term financial plans that support organizational sustainability, growth, innovation, and effective stewardship of resources.
  • Proactively identify and manage financial risks, opportunities, trends, and emerging issues in a complex and rapidly changing health-care environment.
  • Oversee and strengthen financial policies, processes, reporting structures, and systems to support the overall financial health of the association.
  • Lead the optimization of financial systems, reporting tools, data processes, and decision-support mechanisms to improve accuracy, consistency, efficiency, and organizational insight.
  • Provide leadership to portfolio teams, supporting high performance, accountability, coaching, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support capital planning and related financial analysis, including opportunities connected to capital development projects and future service expansion.
  • Lead financial analysis, modelling, reporting, and presentation of data to identify patterns, gaps, opportunities, and recommendations for a range of stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership to assigned technology, systems, facilities, and administrative functions to strengthen alignment, efficiency, service quality, and operational performance.

Policies, Procedures and Legislation

  • Ensure financial practices, reporting, controls, policies, and procedures comply with applicable legislation, accounting standards, funder requirements, organizational policies, and best practices.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of GAAP and monitor changes that may affect financial reporting, accountability, and organizational decision-making.
  • Lead the development, implementation, review, and improvement of finance-related policies, procedures, internal controls, and reporting processes.
  • Support sound financial governance by ensuring timely, accurate, and clear financial information is available to senior leadership, the Board, funders, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen systems, reduce risk, and optimize portfolio performance.
  • Oversee financial planning and reporting processes related to benefits, pension, capital structure, cash flow, and other organizational financial priorities.

Requirements

Education, Designations and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Additional education, training, or experience in health-care leadership, financial systems, data analytics, risk management, capital planning, or organizational transformation would be considered an asset.

Previous Experience

  • Minimum of ten years’ progressive leadership experience in financial health-care management, with a strong foundation in hospitals and/or health-care organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a complex and strategic financial ecosystem; experience with Great Plains Software an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, decision support, reporting, and financial risk management.
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic priorities, policies, processes, and systems that support organizational financial health.
  • Experience leading benefits optimization, including implementation of the Hospitals of Ontario Pension Plan, is identified in the source profile.
  • Experience optimizing capital structure and cash flow in a not-for-profit setting.
  • Experience with Ministry or health capital planning and building and implementation of 24/7 urgent care facilities would be considered an asset.
  • Experience leading teams in a fast-paced, complex, and high-growth organization.
  • Experience collecting, modelling, analyzing, presenting, and communicating data, patterns, gaps, and recommendations to various stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • The ability or demonstrated experience in leading collaboratively and providing clear information across varying levels across the organization to enable great decision making. In-depth knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of finance best practices, trends, and developments.
  • Strong financial leadership skills, including the ability to develop short- and long-term financial plans, manage risk, identify opportunities, and support organizational sustainability.
  • Strong analytical, forecasting, modelling, reporting, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to translate complex financial information into clear, practical advice for senior leadership, the Board, external agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead process, system, and performance improvements that increase efficiency and strengthen organizational effectiveness.
  • Excellent leadership and coaching skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop and promote high-performing teams.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and challenging environment while maintaining sound judgment, discretion, and accountability.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.

Working Conditions

  • Works extensively at a desk using a computer and telephone up to 7 hours a day.
  • Works in a standard office setting.
  • Works in a complex leadership environment requiring confidentiality, discretion, sound judgment, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • May be required to travel between organizational sites and attend meetings or events with community, regional, provincial, and system partners.
  • May be required to respond to urgent financial, operational, technology/systems, stakeholder, or organizational issues.
  • Evening hours and weekends may be required.
