Director, Finance & Operations - Northern Super League Winnipeg Club

NSL Winnipeg is a new professional club in the Northern Super League, Canada’s professional women’s soccer league. As the club prepares for launch, it is building the financial, operational, and administrative foundation needed to support a sustainable business and a strong experience for players, employees, partners, and fans.

This is an opportunity to help build a professional sports organization from the ground up. The Director, Finance & Operations will work closely with the Club President and department leaders to establish the financial systems, reporting practices, internal controls, and operational infrastructure that will guide the club through its early stages and support its long-term growth.

This is a broad and hands‑on role for someone who is comfortable moving between financial planning and day‑to‑day execution. The Director will oversee accounting, cash management, budgeting, Board reporting, employee administration, technology, insurance, vendors, and office operations, while supporting the club’s matchday and business needs.

Position Overview:

• Lead the club’s day‑to‑day financial operations, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, reconciliations, month‑end close, general ledger management, and financial reporting.
• Develop and maintain annual budgets, rolling forecasts, cash‑flow projections, scenario models, and variance analysis in partnership with the Club President and department leaders.
• Prepare clear and decision‑ready financial reporting for the Club President, ownership, and Board, translating financial results and risks for both financial and non‑financial audiences.
• Maintain appropriate financial controls, policies, approval processes, and reporting practices, while coordinating the annual audit, tax requirements, and league‑level financial reporting.
• Work closely with commercial, soccer operations, marketing, and other department leaders to develop realistic budgets and support sound financial planning and decision‑making.
• Oversee employee administration, including onboarding, payroll setup, benefits enrolment, employment records, policies, and offboarding, working with external HR and legal advisors as required.
• Manage the club’s technology, insurance, vendors, contracts, office operations, and general business services, ensuring systems and resources are in place to support employees and club operations.
• Build practical and scalable processes for a growing organization while supporting matchday business operations and responding to new priorities as the club develops.

Ideal Qualifications and Experience:

• You bring five or more years of progressive finance experience, including responsibility for full‑cycle accounting, month‑end close, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
• You have a degree in accounting, finance, commerce, business administration, or a related field. A CPA designation, or meaningful progress toward one, is strongly preferred.
• You bring strong cash‑management and forecasting experience, ideally within an organization with seasonal, uneven, or rapidly evolving revenue.
• You have worked within a start‑up, early‑stage, small, or growing organization and are comfortable building processes and systems where established structures may not yet exist.
• You have experience preparing financial information to executives, owners, or Boards.
• You are organized, resourceful, and calm in an environment where priorities will evolve and solutions often need to be created rather than found.
• You are committed to building an inclusive and equitable workplace and are available to work in‑market in Winnipeg, including supporting the club on matchdays.
