Job description

The Family Supports Navigator provides referral, navigation, and coordination services for children, youth, and families accessing the Family Resource Network. The position supports families in identifying strengths, priorities, and goals; understanding available services; overcoming barriers to participation; and navigating community-based supports and service systems. Through intake, assessment, referral, advocacy, follow‑up, and service coordination, the Family Supports Navigator helps ensure families are connected to appropriate resources and receive timely, responsive, and individualized support.

Reporting to the FRN Supervisor, the Family Supports Navigator works closely with the FRN Network Coordinator, community partners, and service providers to promote coordinated access to services, strengthen referral pathways, identify barriers to service access, and support positive outcomes for children, youth, and families.

This part‑time position includes alternating morning and afternoon shifts and requires flexibility to meet the needs of children, youth, and families. Based at the YWCA Calgary Hub, the role also requires travel throughout the Calgary service area to meet with families and attend community‑based appointments, programs, and events.

What We Offer

  • Truly rewarding work; contribute to lasting, positive change for individuals and our community
  • A supportive team environment and opportunities for professional development
  • Comprehensive benefits including an employee assistance plan

What You’ll Do

  • Respond to inquiries from children, youth, families, and community partners in a timely manner
  • Complete intake, screening, and needs assessments using a family‑centered approach
  • Support families to identify strengths, goals, priorities, and service needs
  • Provide information about available services, programs, and community resources
  • Develop individualized service plans for families requiring ongoing navigation support
  • Maintain accurate and timely client documentation
  • Facilitate referrals to FRN programs and external community services
  • Coordinate supportive handoffs and help families through service transitions
  • Follow up with families to confirm successful connections to services, based on family needs and role capacity
  • Monitor referral outcomes and assist families when barriers arise
  • Coordinate support across service providers for families with higher needs
  • Participate in case consultations and collaborative planning when needed to support family access and safety
  • Support families who are experiencing challenges of accessing services or navigating systems
  • Assist families in identifying and addressing barriers such as transportation, scheduling, language, technology access, or service eligibility
  • Advocate for coordinated responses that support family goals and well‑being
  • Connect families with interim supports when waitlists or service limitations exist
  • Promote family self‑advocacy and informed decision‑making
  • Share referral barriers, common family needs, and service access concerns with the FRN Network Coordinator and FRN Supervisor to support network planning and service improvements

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Human Services, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, or related field
  • At least two years of experience supporting children, youth, and families in a community, education, health, or human services setting

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience conducting intake, assessment, referral, and case coordination activities
  • Experience working with families experiencing multiple barriers or complex needs
  • Experience maintaining accurate documentation and client records
  • Knowledge of child development, family support services, and community resources
  • Understanding family‑centred, strength‑based, culturally responsive, and trauma‑informed approaches
  • Knowledge of community systems and services that support children, youth, and families

YWCA Calgary is committed to providing an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace where all employees, volunteers and clients feel valued and respected, whatever their race, religious beliefs, colour, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, disability, age, ancestry, or place of origin.
