Job Description Overview

AtkinsRéalis is growing, and our Western Canadian Engineering group is seeking a client-facing mechanical engineering leader to join our team in Vancouver. This role sits within our Mechanical & Electrical team across British Columbia and offers a strong growth trajectory for the right candidate, with increasing responsibility in shaping the team, expanding our presence in the market, and influencing the future direction of the practice. This role offers a clear opportunity to take on broader leadership responsibilities over time. Our Engineering Services teams in Calgary, Winnipeg, and Vancouver form a dynamic and highly collaborative group, delivering both local projects and contributing to major national and international programs. Our portfolio spans Healthcare, National Defense, Light and Heavy Industrial, Transportation (Rail, Transit, Ports, Marine, Tunnels), Municipal, Federal (including Nuclear), and Institutional sectors. This role will be central to the continued growth and technical development of our Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) practice in British Columbia. The position combines market-facing leadership with hands-on project execution and team development. You will work closely with senior leadership and play an active role in shaping the growth of the M&E practice in British Columbia, including contributing to strategic direction, market positioning, and team development, while guiding a high-performing team and strengthening key client relationships across the region.

Your role

Market Development: Lead and support the development of key markets. Lead the development and expansion of key markets for the M&E disciplines. Engage with clients and participate in Key Account Management (KAM) initiatives. Contribute to building and maintaining a robust pipeline. Build and manage a robust pipeline of upcoming opportunities. Support proposal development, strategic planning, and market growth initiatives. Proposal Leadership: Coordinate and contribute to the preparation of proposals. Lead or oversee the preparation of proposals within the M&E practice. Ensure alignment with client expectations and internal quality standards. Technical & Project Leadership: Serve as Project Manager, Discipline Lead, or Design Engineer on projects in various markets. Provide technical oversight and ensure high-quality project delivery. Apply project management principles to ensure timely and accurate execution. Team Development & Mentorship: Mentor and coach engineers and designers, supporting their career development and technical growth. Recruit and onboard new team members, conduct performance reviews, and facilitate training opportunities. Develop future leaders within the team through mentorship, coaching, and thoughtful delegation of leadership opportunities. Ensure quality assurance and consistency across all deliverables. Cross-Regional Collaboration: Collaborate with Mechanical teams across Canada - including Québec, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Atlantic regions - to share best practices, harmonize technical standards, and build a strong national technical community. Participate in national knowledge-sharing forums and contribute to the development of innovative, scalable solutions across markets. Act as a key representative of the BC practice within national forums. Quality Assurance & Peer Reviews: Lead or participate in peer reviews of technical documents and deliverables. Ensure adherence to internal quality standards and industry best practices. Support continuous improvement in design quality and documentation processes. Innovation & Design Excellence: Champion engineering innovation through exploration of new technologies, materials, and methodologies. Promote best practices and forward-thinking design approaches.

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in BC, or eligible for registration in BC (P.Eng. preferred; P.L.Eng. candidates will also be considered).
  • CAPM or PMP designation is an asset, as is demonstrated experience applying strong project management practices.
  • Typically 15+ years of experience in mechanical building systems design, including progressively senior technical, project, and people leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and BIM (Revit) is an asset; however, this role is not expected to be a production-based design role.
  • Experience with collaborative delivery models (IPD, Alliance, Progressive DB) is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop high-performing teams through mentorship, coaching, delegation, and technical leadership.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams and deliver complex building, infrastructure, institutional, healthcare, transportation, industrial, or public-sector projects.
  • Strong client relationship skills, with experience supporting business development, proposal strategy, and market growth.
  • Excellent communication, judgement, leadership, and organizational skills, with the ability to influence across teams, disciplines, clients, and senior stakeholders.
