Director Maintenance

Our client—a prominent, growing transportation and logistics organization—is seeking a strategic, operationally focused Director of Maintenance & Facilities to join their senior leadership team.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, this executive leader will oversee North American fleet maintenance strategy, manage a multi-location facility portfolio, and direct operations at the company’s newly built, state-of-the-art Maintenance Centre in Saint John, NB.
Target Compensation: $130,000 – $175,500 base salary range
Executive Leadership Focus
- North American Fleet Strategy: Drive the end-to-end maintenance roadmap for a multi-regional fleet of ~1,500 assets across North America, balancing high equipment availability with long-term cost efficiency.
- Flagship Facility Leadership: Direct operational strategy, resource allocation, and growth initiatives for the brand-new Speedbay facility, positioning it as a best-in-class hub for internal fleet support and expanding commercial opportunities.
- Portfolio & Asset Management: Execute an integrated real estate and infrastructure strategy covering administrative offices, operating yards, and service facilities, driving energy efficiency, security, and environmental compliance.
- Financial & Capital Stewardship: Maintain full oversight of CapEx and OpEx budgets, vendor contracts, procurement strategies, and asset lifecycle optimization to maximize return on investment.
- Technology & Data Integration: Leverage predictive maintenance tools, telemetry, and modern fleet analytics systems to minimize downtime and transition operations from reactive to proactive maintenance model.
Primary Responsibilities
- Fleet Reliability & Compliance: Establish robust preventive maintenance frameworks while ensuring strict adherence to North American commercial vehicle safety and regulatory standards.
- Operational Excellence: Define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and continuous improvement programs focused on shop productivity, work order efficiency, safety standards, and service quality.
- Cross-Functional Synergy: Partner with executive leadership across Finance, Operations, and Safety to align fleet readiness with commercial dispatch needs and long-term organizational strategy.
- Team Development: Build, mentor, and scale a safety-first, performance-driven culture across shop floor technicians, facility staff, and leadership personnel.
Candidate Qualifications
- Experience: 15+ years of progressive, senior-level leadership experience in fleet maintenance, heavy industrial equipment, transportation, or large-scale logistics operations.
- Asset Scale: Proven track record managing large-scale equipment fleets (~1,000+ units) and multi-site industrial facility portfolios.
- Financial & Tech Acumen: Exceptional budget management capability alongside deep familiarity with enterprise Fleet Maintenance Management Systems (FMMS) and predictive maintenance technologies.
- Change Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead teams through rapid growth, operational modernizations, and facility rollouts.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain, Transportation, or a related field (or equivalent senior executive experience).
