Field Service Technician – Canada


Remote Position, Field Based – Greater Toronto Area


Hourly Rate: $38.00 -$55.00 CAD per hour, commensurate with experience


Summary

The primary responsibility of the Field Service Technician is to travel to customer sites throughout Canada and provide repairs to Alma Lasers equipment and complete Preventative Maintenance as scheduled. This position will sometimes provide level two technical trouble shooting with customers via phone or support local activities within the warehouse/depot.


We are looking for candidates living in or near the following locations:

Greater Toronto Area


This position is home-based within the Greater Toronto Area and requires frequent travel to customer sites across Canada, along with periodic work at Alma Lasers Canada’s Mississauga service depot.

Essential Functions

· Diagnose, analyze, and troubleshoot laser systems and related medical/aesthetic devices to identify root causes of equipment malfunctions.

· Perform corrective repairs and component replacements to restore equipment to manufacturer specifications and operational standards.

· Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation to execute board-level replacements and system repairs.

· Conduct comprehensive functional, performance, and safety testing following repairs to verify proper operation and regulatory compliance.

· Maintain accurate service records, repair reports, calibration documentation, and work orders in accordance with company quality standards.

· Provide Level 2 technical support to customers, field personnel, and internal teams via phone, email, and remote troubleshooting tools.

· Troubleshoot and repair low-voltage electrical and electronic systems using diagnostic equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and specialized test instruments.

· Adhere to scheduled service appointments and respond to preventive maintenance visits, field service calls, equipment installations, and emergency repair requests.

· Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Client Relations, and Sales teams to resolve technical issues and improve customer satisfaction.

· Perform device calibrations and system verification using approved test equipment, including laser power meters and other precision measurement devices.

· Create and maintain troubleshooting guides, technical bulletins, and knowledge-base documentation to support customer service and technical support teams.

· Inspect, test, repair, and maintain finished goods, loaner inventory, demonstration units, and sales equipment within the depot or warehouse environment.

· Perform handpiece diagnostics, refurbishment, repair, calibration, and final quality inspections in accordance with established service procedures.

· Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, quality requirements, and applicable medical device standards during all service activities.

· Manage service parts inventory, tools, and test equipment to support efficient field and depot repair operations.

· Deliver exceptional customer service by communicating repair findings, equipment status, maintenance recommendations, and operational best practices to customers and internal stakeholders.

Education and Experience Required

· College diploma or other post-secondary education in electrical or electronic repair, or equivalent experience

· 4+ years of Field Service experience

· Experience with component level repair, preferred

· Knowledgeable of ISO 13485 certification, preferred

· Valid driver’s licence with an acceptable driving record

· Ability to travel independently throughout Canada


Skills Required

· Positive attitude and approach to the job responsibilities and the Alma team

· Ability to read diagrams and schematics

· Microsoft Applications (MS Office, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

· NetSuite and Salesforce experience, preferred

· Excellent organizational skills

· Ability to multitask

· Bilingual in English and French is considered an asset


Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct reports but assists in mentoring peers and other departments as needed.


Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment as well as medical offices in the field, including medical clinics, physician practices, med spas, and aesthetic clinics. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This position also utilizes hand tools and electrical meters.


Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Travel

This position requires 75-90% travel as needed, primarily within Ontario and Eastern Canada, with periodic travel elsewhere in Canada. Overnight travel and travel on short notice are required. A valid driver's licence and the ability to obtain and maintain a valid passport are required.


Work Authorization

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada. Proof of work authorization will be required following a conditional offer of employment.
