Overview:

As Pembina continues to grow, an exciting opportunity exists within the Engineering & Construction team for a Project Engineer to join the Greenlight Project Team on a consulting basis through the end of 2030, supporting the successful execution of a major capital project.


Reporting to the Project Director this experienced Project Engineer will provide critical support to the Project Director in delivering the project from Final Investment Decision (FID) through to completion, ensuring alignment with project objectives, schedules, and execution plans.

The ideal candidate combines strong project engineering expertise with the self-discipline, work ethic, and adaptability required to help deliver a complex, multi-year capital project. You are a proactive and accountable professional who takes ownership, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and consistently follows through on commitments. With a continuous learning mindset and the ability to quickly absorb new information, you confidently navigate changing priorities while maintaining focus on project outcomes.

The Greenlight Energy Centre is a proposed large-scale natural gas-fired power generation facility to be located within Pembina’s Low Carbon Complex in Sturgeon County, Alberta’s Industrial Heartland. Designed to serve the growing electricity demands of data centre customers, the facility would leverage existing regional infrastructure, including nearby natural gas pipelines and the proposed Alberta Carbon Grid to support reliable power generation and emissions management.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

  • Champion Pembina’s Zero by Choice safety culture and Life Saving Rules by embedding physical, psychological, and cyber safety into all work practices while taking personal accountability to maintain compliance, support audit readiness, proactively identify risks, and protect our people, assets, and data;
  • Act as the Project Engineer for the Power Island scope, overseeing technical and commercial activities from engineering through commissioning and project closeout;
  • Lead coordination between Siemens (Owner Supplied Equipment), the Owner’s Engineer, EPC contractor, and key project stakeholders throughout engineering, construction, commissioning, and start-up;
  • Support regulatory, land, Indigenous, environmental, and utility interface requirements, while providing overall project support and EPC contract administration;
  • Oversee vendor surveillance, quality assurance, and technical reviews for Siemens-supplied equipment, serving as the primary liaison between the Power Island scope and Balance of Plant activities;
  • Monitor and resolve technical RFIs and engineering issues across Siemens, TR, and Aecon throughout project execution;
  • Provide oversight during procurement, fabrication, shop inspections, construction, commissioning, and start-up activities;
  • Conduct field walkdowns, support turnover and acceptance processes, and coordinate Owner responsibilities during project handover;
  • Support commissioning activities, including piping systems, automation systems, and dry and wet commissioning programs;
  • Ensure compliance with Pembina's PSSR, MOC, TCCC, safety, quality, cost, and schedule management requirements;
  • Maintain flexibility within a lean project team, providing support across safety, quality, heavy haul/heavy lift, cost control, scheduling, and project delivery as required; and
  • As a consulting team member, you will contribute and support an inclusive, diverse and equitable workplace.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; equivalent technical education combined with significant project management experience will be considered;
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering and/or project management experience supporting complex industrial projects;
  • PMP designation is considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, solve problems, and drive results through collaboration and strong stakeholder engagement;
  • Highly self-motivated and accountable, with exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering on commitments;
  • Exhibits strong learning agility, sound judgment, and resilience in dynamic project environments;
  • Builds trust quickly through clear communication, professionalism, and a collaborative approach to resolving challenges and competing interests;
  • Technical knowledge of natural gas power generation facilities is considered an asset;
  • Experience supporting facility construction, commissioning, and operations activities is preferred;
  • Committed to operating safely, ethically, and responsibly while upholding Pembina's values of integrity, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence;
  • Commit to stay with the project for the duration for the term; and
  • Based in Calgary, with regular domestic and international travel required, including visits to the EPC office in Madrid, Spain, and the construction site in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.

The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position. The final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.
