Job description

Overview

As Market Lead, Energy (Canada West), you will play a defining role in shaping WSP's Energy strategy across western Canada and beyond. This senior leadership position involves influencing how major energy systems are planned, delivered, and evolved to support the transition to resilient, low‑carbon, and future‑ready energy infrastructure. You will lead projects, be responsible for key accounts, ensure compliance with regulations, maintain high standards of service reliability, and deliver meaningful outcomes for communities, industry, and the environment.

Responsibilities

  • You will be the Technical Market Leader for Energy, reporting to Vice‑President‑Energy.
  • You will lead and grow the Energy practice in Western Canada.
  • You will act as a thought leader, applying advanced knowledge and being externally recognized as a top “go‑to” resource in the field.
  • You will make decisions on complex work‑approach issues for project components and team task completion.
  • You will anticipate business needs, secure required resources, and lead initiatives to implement change in the organization.
  • You will provide recommendations and participate in high‑level technical decision‑making for WSP projects.
  • You will lead certain client accounts and engagements within the Energy Group.
  • You will support the growth of technical disciplines required for Energy.
  • You will ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards and provide oversight and governance for major projects within the Energy team.
  • You will provide governance on Energy jobs, including quality, and lead proposals.
  • You will collaborate with internal departments and stakeholders to improve quality and project delivery, including management of subconsultants.
  • You will mentor and coach other Energy staff as required.

Skills That Set You Apart

  • At least 18 years of experience in the Energy sector, with a minimum of 10 years in a leadership role.
  • Hands‑on experience with Project Delivery.
  • Engineering degree in a related discipline or technical diploma from a post‑secondary institution.
  • Proven business‑development experience with an existing network in the Western Canadian Energy market within British Columbia.
  • Strong financial and business acumen—experience managing business operations and/or a P&L is an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the energy sector, including key industry trends and emerging technologies related to LNG, energy transformation, and decarbonization.
  • Ability to negotiate and build relationships with clients.
  • P.Eng. or P.Tech. designation is an asset.
  • Bilingual in French and English is an asset.

Compensation

  • BC, AB, SK, NWT & NU: $147,500 – $195,400
  • MB & ON: $134,600 – $184,600
  • Atlantic Provinces & QC: $133,200 – $176,900

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. The wage range provided in this posting may be subject to change for business purposes.
