Job description

Airswift is seeking two Contracts Managers to support one of our Oil & Gas clients in Kitimat, BC, or Calgary, AB. This contract position is expected to run through December 2027.


Location: Preferred: Kitimat, BC | Alternate: Calgary, AB


The CPI Contracts role is a senior-level Construction and Contracts professional responsible for the commercial, contractual, and execution management of major Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects, with a strong focus on marine and heavy civil infrastructure.


This position provides leadership across contract administration, construction execution, commercial risk management, claims resolution, and stakeholder engagement to ensure safe, efficient, and commercially successful project delivery.


The role serves as a key interface between the Owner, EPC contractors, subcontractors, consultants, marine contractors, and other project stakeholders, ensuring alignment between contractual obligations, commercial objectives, and project execution strategies throughout the project lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities

1. EPC Contract Management & Project Delivery

  • Lead administration and execution of major EPC contracts from tendering and award through construction, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and administer:
  • EPC contracts
  • Subcontracts
  • Change orders
  • Commercial agreements
  • Ensure contractual compliance while maintaining alignment with project scope, schedule, cost, and risk objectives.
  • Manage engineering, procurement, and construction interfaces among multiple contractors and stakeholders.
  • Support delivery under:
  • Lump-sum contracts
  • Reimbursable contracts
  • Hybrid contract models
  • Provide contractual interpretation and guidance to project teams.
  • Apply disciplined contract administration and entitlement-based decision-making principles.

2. Marine & Heavy Civil Construction Oversight

Provide commercial and contractual oversight for:

  • Quay walls
  • Dredging operations
  • Piling works
  • Marine structures
  • Demolition projects
  • Heavy civil construction

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Supporting planning and execution activities in complex marine construction environments.
  • Coordinating with marine contractors, vessel operators, port authorities, and stakeholders.
  • Managing logistics, construction sequencing, and interface risks.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, regulatory, and quality requirements.
  • Mitigating marine construction risks and minimizing SIMOPS/SIMPOS impacts.

3. Claims, Variations & Dispute Resolution

  • Identify, evaluate, manage, and resolve claims and disputes arising from EPC and construction activities.
  • Manage contractor and owner-side claims related to:
  • Delays
  • Disruption
  • Productivity losses
  • Scope changes
  • Variations
  • Commercial disputes
  • Maintain claims registers and tracking systems.
  • Prepare:
  • Entitlement assessments
  • Commercial evaluations
  • Supporting documentation
  • Evidence packages
  • Support governance committees with claims evaluations and recommendations.
  • Participate in commercial negotiations.
  • Support mediation, arbitration, and formal dispute resolution processes.
  • Implement strategies to minimize commercial exposure and protect project interests.

4. Commercial & Risk Management

  • Monitor contractor performance against contractual, cost, schedule, and commercial KPIs.
  • Identify emerging commercial and contractual risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Lead change management and variation control processes.
  • Provide commercial analysis supporting project decision-making.
  • Ensure robust commercial governance and contract enforcement.
  • Work with project controls teams to assess:
  • Schedule impacts
  • Delay events
  • Productivity losses
  • Commercial consequences
  • Integrate legal, commercial, and project delivery considerations into practical business solutions.

5. Tendering, Procurement & Contract Strategy

  • Support development of project contracting and procurement strategies.
  • Lead or participate in:
  • Tendering activities
  • Bid evaluations
  • Commercial negotiations
  • Contract awards
  • Assess contractual risk allocation and commercial risk profiles of suppliers and contractors.
  • Contribute to execution strategies for future project phases.
  • Provide commercial input into procurement planning and market engagement activities.

6. Stakeholder & Interface Management

Act as the primary commercial and contractual interface between:

  • Owner teams
  • EPC contractors
  • CPI contractors
  • Marine contractors
  • Subcontractors
  • Consultants
  • First Nations partners

Responsibilities include:

  • Resolving contractual and commercial issues.
  • Aligning project execution requirements with contractual obligations.
  • Maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Supporting effective communication across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Driving project momentum and commercial performance.

7. Governance, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure compliance with contractual, legal, regulatory, and corporate governance requirements.
  • Maintain:
  • Contract records
  • Audit trails
  • Correspondence
  • Project documentation
  • Support governance reviews and project reporting requirements.
  • Promote continuous improvement in:
  • Contract management
  • Claims management
  • Commercial practices
  • Capture and implement lessons learned from project execution and dispute resolution activities.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in:
  • Engineering

Certifications

Preferred:

  • Contract Management certification
  • Project Management certification
  • Construction Management certification

Experience

  • Minimum 15 years supporting major EPC projects.
  • Experience across:
  • Energy
  • LNG
  • Infrastructure
  • Marine
  • Heavy Civil sectors
  • Proven management of large EPC contracts throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Extensive marine and waterfront construction experience, including:
  • Dredging
  • Marine structures
  • Port infrastructure
  • Piling
  • Heavy civil works
  • Strong claims management and dispute resolution experience.
  • Demonstrated commercial negotiation and contract administration expertise.
  • Experience with:
  • Lump-sum EPC contracts
  • Risk allocation principles

  • Experience in:
  • Multi-stakeholder environments
  • Joint ventures
  • Owner/operator structures
  • Strong understanding of Canadian contracting practices and major capital project execution.
  • LNG, Oil & Gas, Energy, or Industrial Infrastructure experience highly preferred.
