We are partnering with a well-established consulting engineering firm that continues to grow across Western Canada and is looking to add an Intermediate Electrical Designer / Engineer to its Vancouver team.
This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership of projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to technically sound, innovative building solutions. You'll work across a diverse project portfolio while gaining exposure to project delivery, client coordination, and increasing design responsibility.
The Role
As an Intermediate Electrical Designer / Engineer, you will support and lead the design of electrical building systems across a range of projects including commercial, mixed-use residential, institutional, healthcare, industrial, and public-sector developments.
Working alongside project managers and senior engineers, you'll contribute through all phases of project delivery—from conceptual design through construction administration.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical building systems including:
- Power distribution systems
- Lighting and lighting controls
- Emergency power systems
- Fire alarm systems
- Communications and low-voltage systems
- Security and access control systems
- Prepare construction drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation
- Produce and coordinate design models using Revit MEP and AutoCAD
- Perform electrical load calculations, panel schedules, and equipment sizing
- Coordinate with mechanical, structural, architectural, and other project disciplines
- Participate in project meetings and assist with consultant and client coordination
- Conduct site reviews and support construction administration activities
- Assist with permit submissions and authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) coordination
- Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical codes, building codes, and project requirements
- Support continuous improvement of design standards and internal processes
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline
- 6–12 years of experience in electrical building design within a consulting engineering environment
- Strong proficiency with Revit MEP and AutoCAD
- Experience designing electrical systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, residential, and industrial buildings
- Strong understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), BC Building Code, and applicable industry standards
- Familiarity with project coordination and consultant communication
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Required Experience
- Experience with power distribution, lighting, emergency power, and fire alarm system design
- Exposure to energy-efficient and sustainable building design is considered an asset
- Experience working on institutional, healthcare, commercial, or multi-family residential projects
- Familiarity with electrical analysis software such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, AGi32, or Visual Lighting
- Construction administration and field review experience
