Job Summary:
As a Portfolio Manager on the Central 1 Team, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing Central 1's $6 billion Treasury Securities Portfolio, managing a diverse mix of Canadian and U.S. dollar investments that support the organization's liquidity needs while driving financial performance. This role is responsible for shaping and executing investment strategies, balancing risk and return within established policies, and contributing directly to Central 1's financial strength and long-term success.
What you'll be doing
Provide financial return for the organization while also providing liquidity to support Central 1’s business activities
Develop and execute strategies to enhance returns across Central 1’s Securities Portfolio
Outperform the benchmarks established for the Portfolio
Prepare and deliver reports, presentations, analysis and commentaries detailing historic performance, strategies, opportunities and risks for the ALCO, MRC, ELT and Board Risk Committee
Ensure portfolio meets day-to-day and long-term liquidity needs
Support and refine Central 1’s approach to incorporating Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors into the investment process
Ensure all account documentation and actions taken meet with Central 1 and external regulatory compliance requirements
Ensure the portfolio is structured and managed within the parameters outlined in the Credit and Counterparty Risk Policy, Market Risk Policy, Investment Standard and Liquidity and Funding Policy
Review and respond to risk management reports
Respond to credit union inquiries as subject matter expert
What you'll have
Undergraduate or Master’s degree in Finance and/or Business Administration and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation
5+ years financial management experience with excellent understanding of fixed income and derivative markets
Strong quantitative techniques, analytical skills, data analysis and significant trading experience relating to fixed income securities and financial derivatives
The ability to prudently manage the risks and returns of a large investment portfolio
Proven background in delivering strong, sustainable returns
Operational understanding of financial accounting, including implications of International Financial Reporting Standards and Basel III Capital and Liquidity Rules
Experience working with credit unions and/or within the credit union system an asset
Strong competency in MS Office, with particular attention to Excel and PowerPoint
Advanced experience and fixed income specific skills with Bloomberg and CanDeal
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
Must display an understanding of capital markets etiquette and a keen sense toward building relationships with financial and market professionals
Cross-department and divisional interaction required
Strategic problem solver with practical bias to drive impact
Self-motivated, intellectually curious, and committed to continuous process improvement, learning and professional development
The ability to concurrently manage a variety of tasks is essential to the successful execution of the job requirements
Salary range: $110,000-$130,000 plus variable annual pay incentive of 30%-45%
The salary represents the job rate determined for the successful candidate who is fully competent in the role. The actual salary will vary depending on market conditions and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
