Structural Engineer

PTW is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our Engineering Services team in Calgary. Reporting to the Manager, Engineering Services, you'll join a collaborative team responsible for the engineering, design, and detailing of modular buildings, pre-engineered steel structures, industrial facilities, control buildings, MCC buildings, substations, and commercial steel structures for clients across Western Canada.
Unlike a traditional consulting environment, this role provides the opportunity to work closely with our manufacturing team and see your designs move from engineering to fabrication and construction.
This is a full-time, permanent, on-site position based at our Calgary manufacturing facility.
What You'll Do
As a Structural Engineer, you'll take ownership of projects from concept through fabrication and field support, delivering safe, practical, and cost-effective structural solutions while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Your responsibilities include:

Perform structural analysis and design for industrial and commercial steel structures.

Design structural systems in accordance with the National Building Code of Canada, CSA standards, and applicable provincial codes.

Review, approve, and authenticate structural drawings for fabrication, shop, and field assembly.

Perform code compliance reviews and technical reviews of engineering drawings and bid estimates.

Support estimating by providing structural analysis, steel member sizing, connection design, foundation reactions, and engineering recommendations.

Review engineering work completed by other structural designers and engineers.

Collaborate with Project Management, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Mechanical, and Electrical teams to ensure designs are practical, efficient, and manufacturable.

Provide technical support during fabrication and construction to ensure successful project execution.

Assist with structural inspections in the manufacturing facility and at project sites as required.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to engineering standards, design practices, and manufacturing processes.

Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance within the engineering team.

Champion PTW's commitment to safety by complying with all Health & Safety policies and applicable legislation.
What You'll Bring
We're looking for a collaborative engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges and delivering innovative structural solutions.
Qualifications include:

Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with APEGA.

Registration with APEGS and/or Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) is considered an asset.

Minimum 5 years of experience designing Canadian industrial and commercial structural steel buildings.

Strong knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada (NBC), CSA S16, CSA S136, CSA W59, and other applicable building codes and standards.

Experience using structural engineering software such as Graitec Advance Design, STAAD.Pro, S-Frame, or similar.

Experience using MBS is considered an asset.

Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.

Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
