10K Youth Worker - Hourly Competition #29-26About Our OpportunityWorking within the mission vision values and person-centredphilosophy of FSGVthe 10K Youth Worker provides work to support youth entering adulthood and learning the skills necessary to live independently. Advocacy information life skills education crisis intervention and referrals to youth promoting safety are all key elements in working with youth to develop goals and connections to appropriate services that address their immediate and long-term role reports to the Supervisor of the 10KTYA Housing ProgramWe Value You- Benefits:

Work Hours: Hours are variable - 8-hour shifts (10:00 am 6pm; or 12pm-8:00pm; or 4:00pm-12am)

Salary: GS8 Step 1 ($ 26.85/ hour)

Location: Directions Youth Services 1138 Burrard St Vancouver BC. This position does not allow for remote work.

What do you need to succeed

Education Training Experience
  • Diploma in a related human/social service field
  • 1 year related experience with emphasis on homelessness mental health addictions and/or social services
  • Or an equivalent combination of education training and experience
  • Role Qualifications and Skills include but are not limited to
  • Ability to engage in youth-centered change by establishing respectful relationships holding trauma-informed discussions on positive motivations for change and observing and recognizing change in clients
  • Knowledge of the systemic issues that affect low-income and marginalized people and relevant community social and health resources and government services and systems.
  • Knowledge of low barrier resources harm reduction model adolescent development substance use issues mental health issues sexually exploited youth and street-involved activities
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients and apply personalself-careprinciples
  • Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations maintain calm and tactful composure under a broad range of challenging circumstances and adjust your approach in changing conditions
  • Ability to work alone as well as cooperatively within a culturally diverse environment maintaining the highest professional standards of ethics and confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing across a range of technologies

Additional Requirements
  • Successful completion of criminal record check
  • Current First Aid Food Safe Level 1 and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificates are anasset

Directions Youth Services is a division of Family Services of Greater Vancouver (FSGV) which for more than 90 years has provided a variety of essential resources for children families and individuals in the Greater Vancouver community. We believe in the resiliency of Vancouvers youth who are at-risk homeless and street-involved. We assist youth under the age of 25 to get counselling for trauma mental health or substance issues. Our teams strive to create spaces and build connections with youth who are facing challenges of street life substance use mental health concerns and disconnection from their communities. Directions inclusive programs of shelter and drop-in safe houses and other unique programs are committed to being a community leader in harm reduction work and fostering low-barrier spaces where all youth are welcome.
