Job Description

Key Responsibilities May Include:

  • Work with the management team to monitor work activities, ensuring all plant personnel operate within prescribed safety guidelines and follow best practices for safety and environmental compliance.
  • Empower colleagues to participate in safety performance by promoting the Human and Organizational Performance (Safety Differently) ethos to ensure learning is maximized in preference to discipline.
  • Carry out investigations from reported hazard and near miss reports and identify opportunities for solutions to improve safety culture.
  • Ensure emergency protocols are in place and understood by all employees
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with HSE regulations and ensure adherence to GAP safety and environmental SOPs.
  • Facilitate and support training and development to ensure colleagues are able to meet HSE standards, ensuring plant personnel are up-to-date on basic safety requirements.
  • Maintain safety documentation and records for plant personnel, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Partner with Regional HSE Specialist and site leadership to identify and mitigate plant risks, implementing corrective actions where necessary.
  • Conduct safety orientations and walkthroughs for new hires, promoting a strong culture of safety from day one.

Position Purpose

The HSE Coordinator is responsible for supporting all health, safety, and environmental initiatives at the plant by conducting safety audits, implementing GAP safety and environmental SOPs, facilitating training, maintaining required documentation, assisting with incident investigations, and ensuring compliance with corporate policies as well as provincial and federal OH&S and environmental regulations.

Major/Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure compliance with CHEP safety policies, GAP requirements, and applicable provincial and federal regulations.
  • Lead all workplace incident, injury, illness, and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis, corrective actions, and Learning Loop reviews.
  • Manage workers' compensation claims, modified work programs, and return-to-work processes.
  • Oversee iCare reporting and ensure timely and accurate submission of all safety-related incidents and observations.
  • Monitor and report key safety metrics, trends, and performance indicators to plant leadership.
  • Lead the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC), site inspections, risk assessments, and corrective action tracking.
  • Deliver safety orientation, training, and ergonomic awareness programs for employees and contractors.
  • Maintain safety records, training documentation, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including Safe Sentry, 5S, GEMBA actions, and other corporate safety programs.
  • Act as the site lead for safety projects, environmental compliance, and security programs.
  • Partner with Regional HSE, HR, Operations, and Plant Leadership to identify risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Promote employee engagement and accountability to strengthen the site's safety culture.

Experience

  • Prior experience in a safety role in a manufacturing environment

  • CORE certification, asset

  • Strong customer focus orientation

  • Demonstrated success in delivering strong employee relations

  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally

  • Experience monitoring HSE performance and programs

  • Ability to manage quality processes and motivate a team

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and strategic thinking ability

Skills and Knowledge

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Windows-based systems.
  • Working knowledge of provincial occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis, risk assessments, and developing Safe Work Practices (Standard Work).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and implement safety programs, initiatives, and continuous improvement activities across a matrix organization.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to build partnerships and gain commitment at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills with attention to detail and follow-through.

Additional Site Details

  • Schedule 4pm-12pm Monday to Friday (flexibility availability based on business needs)

Physical Requirements

  • May require standing for long periods of time, intermittent stooping/bending, pushing/pulling, reaching above shoulder, and repetitively rotating hand/wrist/forearm with or without accommodation

Pay Range

Base pay range is $52,000 - $71,000 CAD annually. Salary ranges provided take into account a wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications, geographic differentials and other business and organizational needs. Therefore, actual amounts offered may be higher or lower than the range provided. If you have questions, please speak to your Talent Acquisition Partner about the flexibility and detail of our compensation philosophy. Depending on the position offered, other forms of compensation may be part of a total offering beyond medical & retirement benefits and may include other monetary incentives or business benefits.

Responsabilités majeures/clés
