About the Role

LNG Canada is seeking a construction lawyer to support the Phase 2 Pipeline Expansion during construction. You will partner closely with the project, contracts and construction management teams to provide timely, practical legal advice on contract administration and dispute avoidance, including support for claims, deviations, and variation/change requests arising from the EPCM contractor, prime construction contractors, and other contractors and suppliers. You will review and interpret project agreements and support contract administration across the EPCM and construction contracting model, including claims management, dispute resolution strategy, and compliance with LNG Canada’s commitments to the Pipeline owner, Coastal GasLink.

To succeed with us at LNG Canada, we need your enthusiasm to:

Lead with Honesty: We act with integrity and courage, even when it is difficult.

  • Communicate openly, clearly, and respectfully in all situations.
  • Speak up when something doesn’t feel right, including safety or ethical concerns.
  • Take accountability for decisions and actions, and do the right thing for people and the business.

Nurture Our People: We create an environment where people feel supported, respected, and empowered to grow.

  • Support the development of others through feedback, coaching, and collaboration.
  • Build trusting relationships grounded in respect and inclusion.
  • Assume positive intent and approach differences with empathy and fairness.

Grow Our Business: We focus our energy on work that delivers meaningful, long‑term value.

  • Prioritize what matters most and use time and resources effectively.
  • Set clear goals, follow through on commitments, and deliver results.
  • Look for opportunities to improve how we work and how we perform.

Connect with Purpose: We build strong connections and understand the impact of our work.

  • Listen to, understand and value diverse perspectives.
  • Foster inclusive, collaborative relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Align daily work with LNG Canada’s purpose, values, and broader impact.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Provide day‑to‑day legal support to the Phase 2 Pipeline Expansion execution and construction teams, including guidance on contract interpretation, risk allocation, and compliance with contractual processes.
  • Support the EPCM contractor relationship, including review and negotiation of amendments/clarifications and preparation of formal correspondence.
  • Advise on and help manage contractor claims, deviations/non‑conformances, and variations/change requests, including supporting change management and dispute avoidance.
  • Support dispute resolution strategy on execution and construction issues in collaboration with internal stakeholders and (as needed) external counsel.
  • Work effectively within the LNG Canada Legal team.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Membership in the Law Society of British Columbia or the Law Society of Alberta (or equivalent), or eligibility for admission.
  • 7 to 10 years experience at the bar
  • Experience supporting major capital projects (LNG, pipelines, or similar energy infrastructure) through execution and construction (asset).
  • Experience advising on contractor claims, change management/variations, deviations/non‑conformances, and dispute resolution in a projects environment; familiarity with delay analysis concepts (preferred).
  • Ability to find creative and practical solutions to legal and commercial issues, within acceptable legal and risk frameworks.
  • Strong influencing, negotiation, facilitation, and legal drafting skills, with the ability to clearly explain legal risk and develop practical mitigation strategies.
  • Ability to develop and sustain relationships with business contacts, particularly at junior‑to‑mid levels of the organization, and with stakeholders having diverse cultural backgrounds;
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure with competing priorities and tight deadlines, including with stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions/time zones; strong relationship‑building and teamwork skills.
  • Fluent in English both spoken and written.

This role requires that you:

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit)
  • Live in or are willing to relocate to Calgary.
  • Are willing to comply with LNGC’s drug‑free and harassment‑free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures.

We Offer:

  • A full suite of benefits including a flexible medical and health plan.
  • A defined contribution pension plan with a matching program
  • A competitive vacation offering to ensure a work life balance.

About Us:

LNG Canada is a joint venture of five global energy leaders—Shell, PETRONAS, Mitsubishi Corporation, PetroChina, and KOGAS—bringing decades of LNG expertise to Canada.

Together with our partners, we are exploring a potential Phase 2 expansion that would deliver more lower‑carbon LNG to global markets, support Canada’s ambition to be a top‑five LNG exporter, and generate lasting benefits for B.C. communities and the Canadian economy.

Our guiding North Star is to safely and responsibly create and deliver value. We focus on safety, compliance, performance, and scale, while building a high‑performance culture. Partnerships with governments, local communities, and First Nations are central to our success and will continue to shape our journey.

At LNG Canada, we hire for character and train for skill. We are committed to building a diverse, inclusive workforce that reflects the communities where we live and work. Even if you don’t meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply—this is your chance to join a supportive, collaborative organization with bold ambition and help us build a thriving business.
