Abilities Management Consultant

• University Degree in Social Sciences/Health Related discipline is desired OR a College Diploma and Disability Management course work. (Equivalent education and/or experience will be considered)

• Minimum of 5 years of related professional experience in Disability Case Management with a strong focus on either Short Term/Long Term Disability adjudication OR Workers Compensation Board (WCB) claims management

• Strong understanding of and ability to critically use information pertaining to medical conditions available treatments duration guidelines and resulting work restrictions

Assets:

• Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) Certification

• Experience dealing with addictions and/or mental health issues

• Experience with Cority

• Experience in both WCB and non-occupationally related illnesses

Skills required for success:

• Knowledge of and the ability to interpret Corporate Policy and Procedures (e.g. Duty to Accommodate Framework and Process City of Edmonton Working Relationship Agreement) Collective Agreements Provincial and Federal Legislation (e.g. Human Rights Workers Compensation Act and The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act)

• Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication and conflict management skills

• Ability to present training relating to process and facilitate discussions with operational leaders and unions

• Understanding of metrics and analysis of related trending and present this analysis to operational areas with recommendations for improvement

• Ability to work independently with strong emphasis on accountability and professional expertise

• Experience working within a multi-unionized environment

• Proficient computer and keyboarding skills (Google Apps/Gmail) Apps/Gmail

Abilities Management Consultants (AMCs) at the City of Edmonton are challenged to effectively manage Short Term and Long Term absences including accommodation cases while looking for a proactive approach by analysing data and making recommendations to mitigate loss. AMCs adjudicate Short Term Disability Benefit Claims ensuring employees receive appropriate sick benefits while controlling the related financials.

You will utilize effective case management tools which include development and implementation of return-to-work plans taking the driving role in the Duty to Accommodate process to prevent lost time from work utilizing medical assessments when appropriate and implementing current best practices in the field. The AMC is key in ensuring compliance with Human Rights Legislation relating to discrimination and addition the AMC is responsible to protect and manage confidential information on behalf of our employees.

What will you do

• Adjudicate Short Term Disability Benefit claims including direct contact with employees supervisors health care providers union representatives and/or advocates

• Monitor service delivery provided by Long Term Disability Providers while working closely to ensure claims are managed effectively as part of the overall program that supports employees

• Develop and monitor comprehensive Return to Work plans and accommodations related to short term and long term claims.

• Lead the Duty to Accommodate process to ensure compliance with legislation Collective Agreements and the Duty to Accommodate Framework Agreement

• Consult and provide advice on issues such as Addictions/Substance Abuse Fitness for Work available services (EFAP) Attendance Management etc

• Contribute actively to an ongoing improvement of Disability Management practices and processes at the City of Edmonton

• Engage operational leadership groups to build relationships review metrics trending and facilitate training related to Disability Management initiatives and processes to help mitigate organizational loss

• Perform other related duties as required
