Position Summary


Reporting to the Executive Director Foundation and Director Advancement (ED), the Associate Director contributes to the development of Alumni relations strategies and to Fundraising success by providing day-to-day leadership and management for special campaigns, fundraising appeals, and stewardship initiatives. The Associate Director is responsible for developing, leading and implementing regular and specialized campaigns and collaborates with members of the College’s leadership team, key institutional stakeholders and community partners.


Acts as a pivotal contact between donors, prospective donors and alumni to realize philanthropic, marketing and business development opportunities, as well as sponsorship and strategic marketing initiatives focused on revenue generation.

Duties & Responsibilities


Strategic and Operational Planning

  • Works in partnership with the Executive Director (ED) to support the development of strategic plans and to ensure the effective day-to-day operations of the Foundation, while clearly communicating and consistently meeting the College’s overarching strategies, expectations, policies, and standards.
  • Develops, documents, and maintains operating structures, policies, and procedures for the Foundation to support consistency, accountability, and operational effectiveness.
  • Ensures clear, timely, and effective communication within the department by supporting information sharing and coordination, and assists the ED in planning and facilitating meetings, including management meetings.
  • Represents the department on internal and external committees, as required, and liaises with related areas across the College to support alignment, collaboration, and shared objectives.


Fundraising

  • Under the general direction of the Executive Director (ED), facilitates, coordinates, and delivers a range of fundraising strategies, events, and activities designed to support donor cultivation and secure leadership gifts of $100K and above, with a strong focus on building and sustaining a major gifts pipeline of $25K and higher.
  • Develops and implements a planned giving strategy aligned with the College’s goals and objectives, supporting long-term philanthropic growth and donor engagement.
  • Plans, coordinates, and oversees the resources required for the successful execution and evaluation of fundraising campaigns and appeals, ensuring alignment with established objectives and best practices.
  • Ensures that all development programs and campaigns are effectively implemented and managed on a deadline-driven timetable to support consistency, accountability, and the ongoing maintenance, growth, and evolution of strong relationships with the College’s donors.


Alumni Relations

  • Works in collaboration with the Executive Director (ED) to develop and implement a comprehensive Alumni Relations Strategic Plan that supports the delivery of programming and services aligned with institutional and Foundation priorities.
  • Leads the development and delivery of programs and services designed to strengthen and sustain meaningful connections between alumni, Vancouver Community College (VCC), and the VCC Foundation.
  • Develops and advances revenue-generation strategies focused on alumni engagement, including annual and major gift initiatives, sponsorship opportunities, and affinity partnerships, in support of the College’s fundraising objectives.
  • Establishes standards and strategic direction for all alumni programming to ensure consistency, quality, and alignment with overall advancement and engagement goals.


Community and Partnership Development

  • Identifies and leads the development of new partnerships, sponsorships, and business development opportunities in collaboration with the Executive Director (ED) and key College stakeholders.
  • Builds, strengthens, and sustains positive relationships with donors, external stakeholders, and community partners to support fundraising and engagement objectives.
  • Leads the development and execution of a prospect management process to identify, qualify, cultivate, evaluate, and solicit major gift prospects.
  • Leads and implements a comprehensive donor recognition and stewardship framework to support the development of a sustainable major gifts pipeline, including the establishment of related policies, procedures, agreements, and contracts.
  • Oversees the awards program, including associated donor fundraising and stewardship activities, to ensure alignment with donor intent and institutional priorities.


Financial Management

  • In consultation with the ED, supports the development of the Foundation’s budget for revenue targets and forecasting. Prepares annual operating budget for alumni activities.
  • Provides oversight of fundraising and disbursement budgets and expectancy reports using appropriate reporting tools and metrics.
  • Provides oversight of fundraising programs, and projects, while ensuring accountability and monitoring and adherence to budget/granting targets with partner departments.
  • Approves and oversees program related expenses where appropriate.


Human Resources Management

  • Fosters a positive organizational environment that encourages highly engaged staff.
  • Supervises staff and reassigns or delegates authority to employees on a temporary or permanent basis to meet fluctuating workloads.
  • Facilitates optimal teamwork and collaboration to meet desired service levels.
  • Participates in the selection and evaluation of staff based on the appropriate policies,
  • procedures and collective agreements.
  • Administers the provisions of collective agreements, employment terms of conditions and the College policies, and advises staff as appropriate.
  • May act as a management representative in the grievance process, disciplinary actions and participates in bargaining activities.
  • Liaises and consults with People Services in the effective and consistent implementation of Collective Agreements.


Performs other related duties as required.


Qualifications


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized educational institution and working towards or completed Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation.
  • Seven (7) years of related experience, preferably in a post-secondary with proven success in fundraising major gifts, annual, leadership and planned giving, alumni relations and sponsorships.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.


Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and supervise teams effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Proven capacity to plan, analyze, and contribute strategically at a senior leadership level.
  • Strong entrepreneurial mindset with experience identifying and advancing new revenue, partnership, and growth opportunities.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex and sensitive information to diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and sustain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders, partners, and community groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage disputes and resolve conflict constructively and professionally.
  • Working experience with prospect management system (like Raiser’s Edge) or similar.


Supplemental Information


$103,701 - $138,268 - $159,008 annualized (Pay Grid 13). Normal starting salary placement is between $103,701 and $138,268. Compensation beyond the control/mid-point requires approval by the Public Sector Employer’s Council Secretariat (PSEC).
