Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Engagement facilitates inter‑departmental child, youth and family‑centered service response. The Director of Engagement creates and implements strategies that engage children, youth and families in building upon their strengths, skills and confidence to fulfill our responsibilities in the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and or Supervise the Memengwaa Youth Transitional Housing and Outreach Program, and the Wellness Team.
  • Participate in monthly meetings with the Running White Wolves Youth Council.
  • Work in collaboration with stakeholders to meet the needs of youth in the program and the organization.
  • Liaise with the organization Directors and Supervisors to facilitate meaningful engagement of children, youth and families with services built to support them.
  • Work closely with Program Supervisors to engage in program planning.
  • Co‑organize regularly occurring community outreach to build positive and respectful relationships with children, youth and families who are supported by the organization.
  • Liaise with the organization Directors and Supervisors to create opportunities in the workplace and community organizations for the development of skill, experience and confidence.
  • Provide leadership and modelling to staff on positive youth engagement, with a focus on relational practice; maintain supportive relationships with children, youth and families.
  • Compile program information and data into regular reports for the Board of Directors.
  • Coach the Memengwaa and Wellness teams on reporting and stats to meet various program reporting requirements.
  • Evaluate data, current practices and outcomes and incorporate best practices into service delivery approach.
  • Create, update and/or adapt program policies and procedures.
  • Assess and adapt program and service delivery models on an ongoing basis to ensure supports are provided in our Anishinaabeways.
  • Participate in various community initiatives, with a focus on improving the experiences of First Nations children, youth and families.
  • Support the program supervisor, or other team members when needed, to deal with crises, emergencies, or to solve problems as required.
  • Oversee special projects as required.
  • Must be willing to travel to the 8 Southeast communities.

Qualifications

  • BSW and/or relevant personal and professional experience in the sector.
  • Minimum three (3) years supervisory experience.
  • Experience developing and evaluating social service programs.
  • Knowledge of the Child and Family Services (CFS) sector, legislation, and experiences of Indigenous youth aging out of care.
  • Knowledge of systems such as CLDS, EIA, EI & others, including relevant legislation, policies, and practices that impact Indigenous youth from care.
  • Extensive knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to work with addictions, mental illness, and trauma from a strengths‑based perspective.
  • ASIST, NVCI, First Aid CPR, and other related training courses considered an asset.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and/or understanding of First Nations perspectives, culture, and traditional philosophies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with a high attention to detail; Ability to prioritize tasks and create work plans.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, word processing (MS Word), Spreadsheets (Excel), E‑mail (Outlook) and Internet.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to speak Anishinaabe an asset.
  • Must be available evenings and weekends as required.
  • Must have a valid class 5 driver's license and access to a vehicle.
  • Must have Clear Criminal Record (vulnerable Sector Check), Child and Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Prior Contact Check and acceptable Driver’s Abstract are a condition of employment.
