We are currently hiring a Mine Engineering Technician to join the Engineering team at our underground salt mine in Goderich Ontario. This is not a fly in/fly out position. The candidate must relocate to the Goderich area.

Compass Minerals Goderich Salt Mine located 1800 feet under Lake Huron is the largest underground salt mine in the world. The mine is as deep as the CN Tower in Toronto is tall. The rock salt produced at the mine is used to keep citizens in North America safe as they travel through winter snow and ice. The salt is shipped to hundreds of communities around the Great Lakes and along the St. Lawrence Seaway. Some of the salt is trucked to the Compass Minerals plant less than 4 kilometers away to be packaged for distribution and sale at retailers in North America. The salt is also sold in bulk to manufacturers that make plastics detergents disinfectants and other important products.

Goderichis named Canadas Prettiest Town and is best known for its stunning sunsets. Goderich is a lakeside community of 8000 people located approximately 1.5 hours from London and Kitchener-Waterloo Ontario.

How will you contribute to the team

This non-exempt position functions within a team of other professionals and reports directly to the Ground Control Engineer within the Engineering Department. This position will assist the Engineering Department in ground control and rock mechanics activities while providing assistance to the planning group with scheduling and drafting.

• • Perform weekly mine-wide ventilation surveys diagnose issues develop and communicate corrective actions.
  • Conduct weekly face advance and drilling surveys of all active headings.
  • Conduct total station surveys todetermineactual pillar size and ensure development is online and grade.
  • Complete Mine Plan Map updates using AutoCAD.
  • Filing and maintenance of engineering drawings and documents.
  • Schedule and draft using AutoCAD required plans tomaintainproduction.
  • LiDAR scanning andprocessing ofdata.
  • Install ground control instrumentation in those areasidentifiedin the mine roof and inminerooms.
  • Make arrangements with mine operations personnel for equipment requirements and physical installation of the instrumentation station.
  • Perform scheduled ground control measurements of the electronicinstrumentationread-outs.
  • Assistengineering department personnel asrequired.
  • Perform other related duties asrequired.

What should you bring to the role

• Qualified Mine Engineering Technologist or Technician.
• 3-5 years experience preferred in mining.
• Completeproficiencywith Microsoft Office programs isrequired.â
• AutoCADCMMS systemsrequired.

What is the work schedule

• This is a Monday-Friday position 8 hours per day. Overtime as required in order to support a 24-hour operation.
• This position is expected to work underground.
• If you do not live nearby you will be required to relocate. A relocation assistance package is available to those that qualify.
