Job Title: Services Principal Consultant

Location: Calgary / Houston

Employment Type: Full-time Hybrid (2-3 days onsite)

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead on assigned projects providing guidance mentorship and technical direction to project team members.

  • Take ownership of the technical delivery of projects ensuring solutions meet customer requirements quality standards and business objectives.

  • Collaborate with customers Engineering and Operations teams to gather analyze and validate business and technical requirements.

  • Conduct requirements analysis and translate customer needs specifications and requests into effective technical solutions.

  • Prepare and maintain project documentation including User Requirements Document.

  • Review and validate internal and external technical specifications to ensure completeness accuracy and feasibility.

  • Develop cost estimates and support the management of project budgets schedules and resource requirements.

  • Oversee project testing activities ensuring solutions are thoroughly validated and meet functional and performance requirements.

  • Ensure all project deliverables are completed on time within budget and in accordance with company standards processes and quality requirements.

  • Identify project risks develop mitigation plans and communicate project status issues and recommendations to stakeholders.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges by applying established methodologies and innovative problem-solving approaches when required.

  • Document recurring issues lessons learned and proven solutions to support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

  • Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders cross-functional teams customers and external partners.

  • Communicate project requirements technical information and critical updates effectively across departments to ensure successful project execution.

  • Recommend alternative technical approaches and solutions that optimize project outcomes and enhance customer satisfaction.

  • Stay informed of industry best practices and emerging technologies relevant to project execution and customer needs.

  • Travel to customer sites as required (approximately 50%) to support project delivery stakeholder engagement and implementation activities.

Required skills:

  • 10 years of experience in SCADA systems industrial controls and automation environments.

  • Strong understanding of network architectures including TCP/IP and UDP and industrial communication protocols such as OPC UA MQTT DNP3 XMODBUS BSAP Mercury and related technologies.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server including database design query development reporting and analytics.

  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to lead technical teams mentor team members and drive project execution.

  • Deep knowledge of the Oil & Gas industry including SCADA systems hydrocarbon management contracts nominations allocation metering and related operational processes.

  • In-depth understanding of AVEVA solutions and their application within customer operational environments.

  • Strong analytical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage customer expectations while aligning solutions with product capabilities and business requirements.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Self-motivated and adaptable with the ability to work independently and effectively under minimal supervision.

  • Results-oriented mindset with a strong focus on customer satisfaction and business outcomes.

  • Effective decision-making skills and the ability to perform well under pressure.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with customers stakeholders and cross-functional teams.

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or Computer Science required with a preference for Electrical Engineering Software Engineering or a related technical discipline.

  • Professional Engineer (.) designation or registration with a recognized Professional Engineering Association is considered an asset.

  • Project Management certifications such as PMP CAPM or equivalent are preferred.

  • Experience managing technology or industrial automation projects within a formal project management framework is considered an asset.
