Cameco is one of the largest global providers of the uranium fuel needed to power a secure energy future. The Blind River refinery is part of Cameco’s Fuel Services Division. Blind River is situated on the North Channel of Lake Huron on the Trans Canada Highway, midway between Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Position and Responsibilities

Reporting to the General Manager, the Manager, SHEQ and Compliance leads the site’s safety, health, environment, quality, and compliance functions to ensure operations are conducted safely, in full regulatory compliance, and in support of high-quality production. This role provides strategic and operational leadership, overseeing key areas including occupational health and safety, compliance and licensing, environmental management, radiation protection, quality assurance, fire protection/security, and analytical services.

The Manager, SHEQ and Compliance ensures effective oversight of site activities through inspections, audits, and performance monitoring, and is accountable for the environmental management and compliance systems, including the establishment of objectives, audit performance, and continuous improvement. As a key member of the site leadership team, this role provides direction on SHEQ and regulatory risks, supports informed decision-making, and ensures consistent execution of standards across the operation.

This position plays a critical role in strengthening a culture of safety and compliance, driving accountability, and ensuring SHEQ performance is clearly communicated, understood, and continuously improved across all levels of the organization.

Education and Qualifications

Requirements of the position:

  • Post-secondary education in engineering, environmental science, occupational health and safety, or a related technical discipline. 8 -12 years of progressive leadership experience in a complex, regulated industrial environment. Experience leading SHEQ, compliance, and continuous improvement functions. Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks, management systems, and industry best-practices. Proven ability to lead teams, manage priorities, and communicate with diverse stakeholders. Demonstrated leadership, sound judgment, and commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
