Job description

Role Description

Arcadis is seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our Roads & Highways Engineering team in Western Canada. This senior-level role will lead the management of roads and highway engineering projects, overseeing all aspects of planning, design, and delivery. The role involves coordinating multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative solutions for complex urban and rural transportation challenges, ensuring projects meet the highest standards of quality, functionality, and community benefit.

Role Accountabilities

In this role, you will lead the delivery of complex highway and roadway design projects, including corridor widening and reconstruction, interchange and intersection design, roundabout design, roadway realignments, and geometric improvements. You will guide the development of detailed engineering design drawings, contract documents, and technical specifications across a diverse portfolio of municipal and provincial infrastructure projects, ensuring all work is executed to a high technical standard.

You will be responsible for driving project performance, with oversight of schedules, budgets, monthly invoicing, and the timely completion of deliverables. Success in this position will require a strong focus on efficiency, quality, and accountability, while maintaining rigorous quality assurance and quality control practices throughout the project lifecycle.

As a leader, you will manage and mentor project teams by assigning work, setting priorities, building technical capability, and encouraging innovation and professional growth. You will also cultivate a collaborative, high-performing team environment that promotes continuous improvement, strong client focus, and shared accountability for results.

Additionally, you will act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing proactive, clear, and consistent communication to support outstanding service delivery and strengthen long‑term stakeholder relationships. You will also contribute to business development by leading proposal preparation and participating in pursuits, presentations, and client meetings to help secure future opportunities.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Registration as a technologist with ASTTBC or ASET, and/or a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering from an accredited university
  • P.Eng. registration with APEGA or EGBC, with dual registration in both provinces considered a strong asset
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive project management experience, preferably on projects for Alberta Transportation, BC Ministry of Transportation, or municipal clients in British Columbia and Alberta
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Bluebeam for document review and markups, and ProjectWise for document management
  • Experience with MS Project for project scheduling and control would be an asset
  • Familiarity with relevant design tools such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Demonstrated technical experience applying roadway and highway design standards in British Columbia and Alberta, including TAC, MMCD, BC Ministry of Transportation and Transit, Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors, and applicable municipal standards
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, develop talent, and foster a positive team culture
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including stakeholder engagement and client management
  • Strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively as both a team leader and team member in multidisciplinary environments
