Job description

Senior Geotechnical Dam Safety Engineer

Location: Calgary, AB. This role supports dam engineering and traditional geotechnical projects, including dam safety management, dam stability evaluations, investigation and instrumentation programs, design and construction monitoring, and mine site reclamation.

Your Role

  • Project management of small to medium multidisciplinary projects, including budget, schedule, and quality control.
  • Proposal and project report writing and review.
  • Evaluating geologic conditions and geotechnical characteristics for assessment and design of shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, and earth structures.
  • Planning and supervising geotechnical investigations.
  • Conducting dam safety reviews and completing remediation designs.
  • Conducting or reviewing slope stability and embankment assessments and completing designs.
  • Conducting seismic assessments.
  • Analyzing field data and preparing detailed engineering reports and recommendations.
  • Communicating with clients, sub‑consultants, and internal stakeholders.
  • Supervising and reviewing construction monitoring activities for various projects.
  • Periodic travel, including overnight stays, to project sites to oversee field investigations, construction QA/QC activities, audits, or other activities required.
  • Collaborating as a team member and mentoring junior staff.
  • Conducting activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursuing continuous professional development and maintaining a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Working in a safe manner at all times and reporting all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological Engineering, or similar.
  • 10–20 years of experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, GeoStudio 2007 Products, and MS Office.
  • Good time management skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision, and the ability to contribute to the project as a team player.
  • Travel will be required.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the required field duties.
  • Must possess a valid BC Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent).
  • Eligible for registration as an EGBC and APEGA Professional Engineer.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada without sponsorship.
