The Calgary West Central Primary Care Network (CWC PCN) is a non-profit organization committed to a healthier future. As a Primary Care Network we work alongside hundreds of family doctors (our members) to support the patient-doctor relationship and provide programs and services at no cost to doctor or patient.

As the Primary Care Registered Psychologist (PCRP) youll provide comprehensive quality mental health treatment to patients in a primary care setting. Youll be a member of an interprofessional healthcare team utilizing collaboration innovation and teamwork in the provision of primary care services.

This role is primarily a work from home position with occasional in-person responsibilities; therefore the successful candidate must be located within the Calgary Zone or the surrounding area (e.g. Cochrane Canmore Airdrie etc.).

Registration and membership with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) in good standing is required for this role. The successful candidate must be fully registered by the start date; however the interview process can commence while the candidate is provisional.

This is a part-time temporary position (maternity leave contract) and the expected contract dates are September 21st 2026 - October 29th 2027. The hours of work are Tuesday Wednesday Thursday from 1:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Address a wide range of mental health concerns with the goal of early identification quick resolution long term prevention and health promotion.
  • Provide intake of physician referrals for assessment of patients.
  • Provide patient care delivered through 30- to 50-minute consultations on a short-term basis.
  • Provide care through digital health technologies (e.g. telephone video).
  • Screen patients for risk to self and others.
  • Provide crisis management intervention and planning to support individual patient need.
  • Collaborate with the physician and other allied health professionals to ensure that the patient receives comprehensive care.
  • Demonstrate expertise and skills to support patients presenting with:
    • Depression anxiety and stress
    • Stress-somatization responses
    • Sleep disturbances
    • Chronic pain
    • Self-management of chronic diseases and other health conditions
    • Occupational problems
    • Relationship difficulties including marital and child and family issues
    • Bereavement loss and grief
    • Substance abuse
    • The needs of the elderly and their caregivers


Requirements

Education: A masters level degree in psychology from an accredited university and recognized as sufficient for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) is required. Additional certifications in mental health and chronic disease management are an asset. Professional education related to quality improvement (QI) in the workplace and on teams is an asset.

Experience: A minimum of 1 - 2 years experience with the following is required:

  • Experience and comfort providing care through digital health technologies (e.g. telephone video).
  • Experience independently assessing patients with mental health conditions to determine the best options for care and treatment.

A minimum of 2 - 4 years experience with the following is an asset:

  • Clinical experience in a primary care setting.
  • Previous experience in patient teaching and with successful QI initiatives in the workplace and on teams.

Registration: Registration and membership with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) in good standing is required. The successful candidate must be fully registered by the start date; however the interview process can commence while the candidate is provisional.

Technical: Proficiency in computers Microsoft Office Suite and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems is required. Experience in and/or willingness to learn platforms such as Pomelo and digital health is required.

Backgroundcheck: A clear Criminal Background check with Vulnerable Sector check is required to start.
